Please help me create a registry entry to start Steelseries Engine 3 at startup

Thread Starter
Steelseries Engine 3 tries to start itself by creating a shortcut in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp, but I often find the program doesn't appear in the system tray. On those occasions the process does show in task manager, but it only uses a fraction of its usual amount of memory (around 2.5 mb instead of over 50 mb), doesn't perform its usual functions and I am not able to start it manually either.

I'd really like to try to get this program to start via the registry before giving up on it, but I've never created a registry entry before and I have no idea of what the considerations are, so I'd really like the help of someone who knows what they are doing. If anyone can suggest another method that's safer than modifying the registry and more reliable than the Windows startup folder I'd be open to that too.

Thanks.

A registry hack isn't necessary. It's to dangerous for the uninitiated, and, besides, you haven't even told us what OS you're using.

Simply putting the correct shortcut in the Start Up folder will work,

Whatever you click on to start what you want to start at startup, right click it and use that to create a shortcut to it on your desktop. Then copy that shortcut to your Windows Start Up folder.

This would start Norton Antivirus on boot up. Substitute the program that you want to start.

Apologies for the lack of information, the OS is Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. Thanks for clarifying that this startup method is dependable and the way the shortcut can be created. I guess this means I should look at my system or the program (Steelseries Engine 3) for the root of the problem?

Many thanks. +Rep billbartuska for the explanation and example pic of a way to start a program at startup.

Anything that will startup with a single click will work with this method.

If you want to get fancy you could use a simple batch file to start multiple programs.
That's the way Microsoft did it form DOS 1.0 until Vista.
