[Newegg] ViewSonic XG2700 27” 4K UltraHD $649.99

ViewSonic XG2700-4K 27” 4K UltraHD 16:9 Widescreen 5ms SuperClear® IPS, VESA Adaptive-Sync, SmartSync technology Ultra HD LED Gaming Monitor Newegg - $649.99

This is a 10bit AH-IPS Flickerless backlit LED 4K 60 Hz panel with Adaptive sync and DP 1.2a and HDMI 2.0 which is capable of full 60 Hz support.

I bought one myself and started this thread on the monitor. Came across lower pricing tonight over suggested retail price and thought I'd share if anyone was interested in making the 4K leap.

IDK if you ask me, compared to 4K Gsync equivalent Acer XB280HK bprz on sale for $779 that's a 4K TN panel not an AH-IPS like this, so I'd say this not the one priced high. It's acutially Pretty good deal for 4K.

Yes, VRR is a massive game changer in gaming. Also, the cost difference isn't just for the VRR.

Generally speaking, higher quality control, warranty and support, higher grade panels. A lot of things most people aren't going to "see". Although, nothing against the Korean displays, I have four of them.

Depends on the product, actually.

When it comes to VRR, the VRR technology needs to be tuned to the panel it is in. If that isn't done right, you get several adverse effects when using it. The early forms of FreeSync showed this by having Ghosting issues and narrow VRR window ranges compared to the refresh rate of the display itself. Situations where the display might have been 120 Hz, but the VRR window was 45 Hz to ~70 Hz. You also have consideration of response time on the display as well. As some displays have atrocious response times.

You also can run into issues like with the Monoprice 1440P display that came out not that long ago. While it claimed to be able to OC to upwards of 120 Hz, it was found that even at 60 Hz it was dropping frames and not actually refreshing at the stated Hz. The issue became even worse as you attempted to OC the display.

Generally speaking, when you go with a higher quality, known brand display, you are more likely going to get what is advertised and what you think you are getting. Then you have things like VESA mounts, quality of the stand, all the way down to the quality of the soldering on the PCBs. Especially where connectors for external lines are concerned.

It is extremely difficult to compare display A to display B just by the numbers on the box and the price point. While, generally, it can be done when comparing displays of similar quality. It gets harder to do that when you start comparing what would be a budget display to that of a top tier display.

As great as the Korean displays I purchased are, especially for their money. They absolute fall short of the higher quality displays in a few areas.

Are VRR techs useful when the framerate can be capped high (ie 60hz 70fps 1080p ?)
