There are almost no games out anymore that I'd dump hundreds of hours in. I typically play through them once, using trainers to skip the grindy parts, and never play them again. That's gaming for me in 2016 mostly. Online gaming is pointless for me. I no longer have the time, or the willingness to be competitive in these games, and if I'm not at least competitive, then I'm not having any fun.

The main problem I have with games now is they're too long, the never ending open world types. They are great games, no doubt, (skyrim, witcher 3, etc) but they are LIFE SUCKING. Most missions, even side missions, take HOURS, just for ONE. Exploring is the fun part,

I guess its good for kids who have a lot of time, but i'm kind of up there with the older guys group so time management is important when there are so many other things going on in life.
I remember playing splinter cell and thinking it was awesome, creeping around nice and slow. Now, I don't have time to do a lengthy, stealthy game. It's got to be something fairly fast pace and with as few cut scenes as possible. And yeah, the slow grinding games I just cant do anymore. I cant even finish alien isolation, its taking too long creeping around while the game is already much, much longer than it should be.

Sorry, that turned out to be a rant more than anything else biggrin.gif

This whole thread is a rant thread, it's all good. I agree that open world is being overdone, the result of Skyrim's record breaking success.

The issue I have with this is that games are pursuing open world and in the process making sacrifices to actual quest content, storytelling, gameplay, and other factors depending on the game. So many of these games end up being huge in scale for no reason, without much to do in those big levels.

Also, this trend has led to many pseudo open world games that are called open world, which annoys me. Open world means all locations in the game are accessible from the start with no restrictions, allowing for true free roaming. Dragon Age: Inquisition and The Witcher 3 thus do not qualify.

Hell some people call extremely linear, corridor-like games such as Tomb Raider 2013 and The Witcher 2 open world. They probably think open world means single player, like they think FPS just means shooter or first-person game, or that if they enjoy a single player game then that means it must have a good story. doh.gif

Now that I have 2 kids + wife I've just accepted I can't play as many games as I'd like anymore. I just decided to focus on mostly single player games, with maybe 1 or 2 MP games at the very most. That and I typically have less interest in new IP's, and I'd much more likely go back to an IP I already played or didnt' finish.

i played skyrim to the end and sidequest

but you have to admit every dungeon follows the same design

start dungeon, walk.........in the last room is the boss or item and a magic exit, fallout 3 4 being the same, sure, its hours of gaming, but mega repetitive

i love games, but hate to work in games

games like: batman, mordor, mad max, ass creed, gta5, i just cheat and get max money and the game becomes way better, unlocking all the good stuff and buying everything, just like playing final fantasy without the stupid leveling or grinding or random fights every 5 seconds, you can enjoy the game, even metal gear solid 5 went to hell

Sometimes I live to game, other times barely at all. For days/weeks/months/years both ways.

I remember in 2007-8 I used to drink a lot and watch utube documentires for 2 years. And the game that really got me back into gaming was STAR WARS JEDI KNIGHT 2 OUTCAST

Then 2-3 years later I really started throwing money at my computer, and ever since I've had a top level gaming rig.

And sometimes I'm glued to the games, and other times not, like this last week, barely touched them.

And overall, my GTX 980 Ti has spent more time playing old simple games than anything hard, even though I have some big pre-2016 titles

You read it so often: "cant game because of wife/kids"

Why ?

I have no problem spending hours and hours everyday of the week on games if i wanted to.
Whats is it these other epople have to do ?
There kids never sleep ? they have to sit down with the wife in front of the TV ?

I work, got wife and kids and still get bored with gaming at times because i do it so much.

Do you all work 7 days a week, 16hours a day or something ?

It's just the dichotomy of developing for youth vs age. I do look back at games I played growing up, and even the RPGs could be beaten within a weekend, given today's resources of FAQs and such. The problem is, if you release a game like that, people are going to complain that it's too short and easy and not worth the money. Is it really possible to even develop a triple A game designed for people with little time?
I LOVE open world games, but dam sometimes thats the most work of all, especially if you're a pack-rat, like in Skyrim and FallOut. Even when I try not to be a PR and use cheats. Some days its just u load some distant memory quicksave (which of course I have set to F1) ......and u spend 10mins going to some quest, 10-20or ???? min on it, then 10 min going back and selling the junk, upgrading, etc. On a busy day thats a lot of time.

And GTAV ?????? I played GTA3,VC, SA so much, and yet I've barely played GTA5, I think its the loading times and bad memories of that GTA social club thing that has to load 1st or whatever from GTA4.

So long as my game SSDs don't give up, I can play them at my own pace I suppose, and they will seem cutting edge tech to me.

In the meantime I've put of gaming today long enough, time for some SC2 ???????

And I can't wait for the next Skyrim type equivalent. And I wish FO4 didn't play like crap on my near super rig, for some still undetermined reason

Wow, does anyone have their kids do stuff in videogames that are like household chores ????????????

Hey kid, play Skyrim and go fetch me that guys cool weapon, and get metal and upgrade the junk weapons/etc and sell them.

And I'm a science geek tho, I'd love way more detail on some crafting and chemistry. Although I have more technical games that I bought but bARELY PLAYED.

See I guess I need kids to go to work for me IRL and games, and then I can focus on my hobbies more ???????????? Is that why people get kids ????? And from where ?????????

I am 52 and started gaming on a PS1. Got into pc gaming in 1996. Have 130 steam games and have not been in the setup screen on around 40 of them. Bought on steam sales a few years ago and never started them. I am going thru Doom right now and enjoying it.

I play on surround monitors at 7680x1440 and my flight sims are great with my track IR5. I do have a Insurgency server setup with TS3 and every Wed. night a group of my friends get on and play. We are 53,52,52,50 and 40 years old. Get along great as we have been playing since the old Rainbow Six days. We are within 150 miles of each other.

I also am starting to play less games like the rest on this thread. I will turn on my pc then just surf for a couple of hours and realize that I did not start a game. I am starting to get more into movies and looking at upgrading to a new Dolby Atmos receiver. Thought about the new Titan X for $1200 for about 5 seconds and realized that is only $400 bucks less than the 9.2 receiver that I want. Also thinking of moving to a 65-78 inch 4k HDR tv from my 64 inch Sammy plasma.

My second pc in the living room that has a 920 at 3.8, 2 ssd's, and a 780gtx has not been turned on for 6 months. Should be able to get $400 for that.

Still enjoy gaming but much less than I used to.
