R9 280 overclock not taking effect

Hello guys,

for a few months now I've been using this overclocking settings on my r9 280, with like 90% crash free. Its quite stable at @1140/1300 with +20% power.

Some times i leave the memory at stock clock just in case, as i notice it hardly changes my fps.

However, what I see it happening very often, is that the overclock doesnt take effect on the game all of the time. I mean: it is ON on the crismon driver, it is ON on MSI afterburner, but the values will show stock clock on the games. Only after a while (or randomly) it will turn ON on the games. And I gain about 10 fps with this simple task, which is great, but I cant tell what is causing it not to work.

I wonder if it's the psu? but i think i have plenty of power. What I do is start and close the game untill the overclock takes effect. temperatures are always bellow 78ºC so i guess that's not an issue either. I'm trully clueless.

any thoughts?

p.s.: and non related, oddly enough, i often get a driver crash when playing DOTA2 (when overclocked), which must be the game that least use my gpu.

Your PSU should be able to power that card along with the processor. Did you install drivers over the previous installation or was it a clean install ? Are you using MSI Afterburner to overclock you cards ? Are you on the latest Crimson 16.1.1 hotfix drivers ?

I'd advice you to clean install (use DDU to get rid of any leftover files from registry) Crimson. Also, before you install the latest drivers which have made some improvements for Fury series owners, I'd recommend you uninstall MSI Afterburner and then re-install after having installed the drivers.

Yeah all drivers are clean install and up to date. I remember i was having this issue when the last the division beta was on, and i did a clean install. After that the overclock was working fine with great boost in performance, but after a while it got back to the same state again. It only takes effects when it wants. I have tried both on driver and MSI, sometimes one and another, but still havent fegure out what is causing it to randomly work or not. I'll try that again.
and perhaps go back to the latest non crismon driver!?

EDIT: I forgot to mention, I was wondering if it isnt something to do with the factory overclock, since it's a boost edition vga. I dont know what triggers the boost, but maybe its related to not allowing my own overclock to take effect.
