I was wondering about the "K3" variant of that motherboard...
- no NVIDIA sli support
- killer vs intel ethernet

Most of them are Noctua, and they all have the same color. What do you mean by killer vs intel ethernet? That's the best online retailer in Norway, and their main office is like 10 minutes away from where I live so I can just go pick up the parts the same day I order them like 2 hours later. This is what they have for air cooling https://www.komplett.no/category/10462/vifterkjoelingvannkjoeling?subcategory=10547_CPU%20%E2%80%93%20Luftkj%C3%B8ling

I know it would be a waste of money, but you could always replace (or paint) the stock noctua fans.

Other than that, it seems like the Evo and maybe the V8 GTS are your only options. Personally I would go with the Evo and just overclock a little less, though you probably cannot go wrong with either.

Or you could just get an AIO, which I don't think are nearly as bad as some people make them out to be.

I know i'm late to the party, but you could get the i7 4790K for it's clock speed (4.2-4.4Ghz stock) and get a B85 Chipset motherboard and keep the 8GB ram from your current pc if you want to save some money.

I've built gaming pc's like that for mates who want it to just work, they're very happy with it. I would still upgrade the cooler though, running cool makes them last practically forever.. I put a 120mm CoolIT closed loop cooler on my brother's i7 870 system 6yrs ago and it's still going strong depite him cleaning it maybe once so far.

My asetek cooler has lasted forever too, 5+ years also cooling a lynnfield (875k), but there is more than can go wrong, i'm worried about corrosion these days. If your cooling needs are pedestrian, i do think air is probably a better choice. I personally would not get a dual fan 120mm aoi with 2400rpm fans... that would be horribly loud.

The v8 is definitely a more capable cooler. If you intend to push a pretty heavy overclock, i'm pretty sure the v8 would let you do that. If you're goals are more modest, i'm sure the hyper 212 would work fine for that. Given the price of the v8 compared to the 212, you should consider what your needs are.
http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/62061-cooler-master-v8-gts-cpu-cooler-review-5.html

Also, I'd not let the existing 1333mhz ram be the deciding factor on what platform to pick, skylake is the newer/better platform and the socket isn't dead, so i'd go with that.

I'm not sure about getting new RAM sticks yet, because I don't feel like they are holding me back. I'm not really sure what the speed even does in RAM sticks, I know that programs use memory and the more memory the more programs you can run. As long as the V8 isn't too big for the case I'm getting then it's fine, it looks pretty cool anyway and it matches the color scheme.

EDIT: Will everything fit in this? https://www.komplett.no/product/803752/datautstyr/kabinetterbarebone/midi-tower/corsair-graphite-230t-midi-tower-sort

Sadly, the cooler will not fit in that case frown.gif This is the trouble with big air coolers, they're big smile.gif
The http://pcpartpicker.com/ site is good at pointing out compat problems like this. Also fyi, your existing ddr3 ram is not compatible with the newer 6700k processor.

The v8 cooler stands 167mm tall which is just one or two mm too big for the 230T case. Here are some cases that are wide enough.

Fractal Design Define R5 (1090)
This is a very nice case, plenty of room,180 mm

I like this one https://www.komplett.no/product/783661/datautstyr/kabinetterbarebone/midi-tower/cooler-master-haf-912-adv-midi-tower# because I want a black case with red interior, and it also has 4 fans which is nice, right? Or maybe it means that you can have 4 fans, I have no idea. Also, how much do you think overclocking the Skylake to around 4.7Ghz-4.9Ghz with the v8 would shorten it's life expectancy?

I've never had a coolermaster case, but they have a pretty good rep for making good cases. I think it comes with 3 fans, but variants of this case have been around for a while with different coming in the box by default.

2x 200 - front and top
1x 120 - rear

Here's a nice review. http://www.impulsegamer.com/hardwarehaf912advanced.html
Where each of the 200mm fans are mounted, 2x 120 fans could be mounted in each of those positions instead if you wanted. I'd definitely want to remove the taller of the two 3.5" drive bays in the front to allow for more free airflow from the 200mm fan with low static pressure.

Provided you don't overly overvolt or overheat, I think overclocking does very little to shorten life expectancy. I think too high a voltage is the more important thing to be wary of. I'm not sure what clocks to reasonably expect from the skylake chips for an everyday oc. I have a haswell-e and 4.7 is very hard to hit with those chips, most can't do that. This thread could give you and idea of what to expect for skylake.
http://www.overclock.net/t/1570313/skylake-overclocking-guide-with-statistics
Looks like 4.7ghz at 1.4v might be a sweetspot.
