27"+ Simulated 4K (1080p) vs real 4K for desktop use (now GAMING) - Page 4

DSR doesn't physically increase the amount of pixels on your screen. it's still 1920x1080.
how are we supposed to send you pictures so you can judge ? you'll still be viewing them on a lower resolution screen.
but DSR has it's advantages. for higher image quality I prefer running 4K DSR than very high AA. With DSR the picture stays more sharp.

Yeah i know that lol, just want some empirical feedbacks.
Yeah, the pic/texture/grills sharpness and definition increased, even without AA in erhe first place.

Think of it like this.

Resolution increases possible information visible on screen. A 27" 4k is the same res as a 80" 4k. They are both capable of displaying the same amount of information on the screen.

DPI increases the clarity of the screen, generally at the expense of screen size. A 27" 4k is much more clear at the same view distance then a 80" 4k.

DSR is putting more information then is possible on a screen. You end up with more information, but, that information is being condensed into the space. This leads to maybe a more detailed picture then the native res, but, you are not truly gaining clarity or capability to display more information.

Difference between AA and DSR... AA is filling in space by smoothing out lines. DSR has more information in the signal and doesn't need the space filled in by AA.

Least that's the best way I can explain it.

Ok, ok now aside from 4k, is there a big difference between DSR 2X (1440p ish) and actual 1440p (all with a dpi diff at like 27" both) ?

Yea.

A 27" 1440p screen will look clearer then a 27" 1080 @ 2x DSR.

On the screen using DSR the image wont' be as clear and detailed.

How much of a difference? I mean, you'd have to try for yourself. I would not want to use DSR in a desktop environment because text could become an issue.

Nothing would be as clear as it should be using DSR. Distance objects won't be as detailed, you won't really see the added detail in things like tattoos. Not saying that it can't look good with DSR, but, you'll always be better off using native res.

That's not an issue as DSR can independly be chosen to run on each application (ie native when desk then choose 4k xhen gaming in the options of the games)

I know how to use DSR. You're the one that asked about desktop use.

No, not the same.

You just aren't happy if you don't get the answer you want are you?

SSD's are superior to hdd.

DSR is not as good as using the real thing. You're faking it.

If you want to pretend that SSD's are as good as HDD and 4k DSR on a 1080p screen is just like using real 4k then go for it.

Chillout, few posts earlier i said the question about desktop use was about answered for me and i moved on to gaming scenarios, it's with kind of usage i want feedbacks now (dsr and all)

Tou have to understand my goal is not to 'deny' thr innovations brought by some technologied, i just want to evaluate these techs so i make my own opinion and know what to buy when i have to,.

yes, there is difference between whatever resolution in DSR and the reeal thing. We've written 4 pages about this. If you want empirical evidence then buy a new display.
1080p to 1440p is a big difference when you've got a 1080p screen and go on to a 1440p one. I remember when I switched from 1080p to 1440p and the first game I launched was Far Cry 4. I started noticing things like cracks on the rhino skin in FC4,even from distance. That's what resolution increase will give you, DSR will not.
I suppose the difference would be as big when you switch 1440p to 4K but some ppl say it doesn't have that wow effect of 1080p->1440p, however I would greet that with scepticism.
I still think the best possible displays for now are 1440p 144hz ones with g-sync/ulmb. 4K is a huge resolution but you'll struggle to get 60 fps unless running Fury CF/980Ti SLI

Yes , you have written 4 page on DESKTOP scenarios, now the only feedback on 1080p 2X DSR(yes ?) vs 1440p is the one you just gave, thanks.

Pls enough with 4k, like you said i only have a 'modest' configuration and i hate playing my games at sub 60fps/lower settings

oh and again the question is HOW BIG of a difference
