My system's front IO isn't readily accessible when I'm gaming so I built a remote control connected at either end by ethernet cable. 4 twisted pair means 8 wires, enough for 2 LEDs and 2 switches.

I did this by dremeling an old 10/100 NIC to pieces and sounding out the ethernet traces, then I soldered those traces to a 2x5 terminal and painted the whole thing with Plasti-dip.

Great thing about this is you can use almost any length Ethernet cable (or make your own) and the switches will still work fine. The LEDs will dim significantly over distance as the wire's resistance increases but anything within the same room shouldn't be a problem.

Anyone find this useful? Anyone done something similar?
