[TweakTown] AMD has their own recommended CPUs for VR, because Oculus hates AMD - Page 42

So anyone not running a 5960X and a Titan X is being "bottlenecked"? By that logic if you are not running two Titan X's instead of one you must have a gpu bottleneck. That's not how the term is really used in my experience.

I love how they conveniently avoid any talk about bottlenecks at 4k... cause that's where their argument becomes completely destroyed.

Fact is there is not a single card in existence right now that can do anywhere near enough FPS to saturate a 144Hz 1440p monitor in games like Crysis 3 regardless of who has one. Do you happen to have proof of all these "many games" that are held back, not by the video card but by the CPU at high resolutions? I'd be interested to see it (and to alter my opinions accordingly if available).

You asked for proof, you got your proof. Quit making excuses because CPU bottlenecks do in FACT exist.

Regardless of the CPU, if it's paired with the same card, and you happen to get more FPS with one over the other, then you have a CPU bottleneck.

There are other benches out there that show an even bigger variance when you go with 2 or more cards.

Here's another 1440p bench. 56 vs 83 FPS, clearly one CPU is holding the card back, can you guess which one that is? Hint: It's a CPU that cost more than twice as much at launch, as the CPU that beat it by 48%.

I know you have a point but for the sake of your own reputation, please don't quote gamersnexus thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif.

EDIT: I've been messing around with different games at low graphics settings to see where the fps floor seems to be for my FX 8 core 780ti rig is. BF3 BF4 are right at 100 fps on 64 player servers, Skyrim had about the same on the steps to dragonsreach looking down at white run all 3 averaged in the 130s.
The problem for me is that I like eye candy and at 1440p I'm probably going to need more gpu grunt to get it. Virtual reality at low graphics settings seems like it would be pretty disappointing.

Yeah, a lot of people use the term bottleneck pretty loosely. You are always going to be limited by something, whether it is GPU, CPU, memory, or something else. So showing that a game scales with CPU speed shows that it is CPU limited, but at least to me, bottleneck implies a significant reduction in performance and not just a linear relationship. But other people see it other ways.

Similar to your example, is a 290X bottlenecking my 4790K because a faster GPU gives me higher speeds?

apparently the steam vr test supports crossfire in a windowed mode.

at least that is what msi afterburner and gpu-z are telling me.

What is understood need not be discussed. wink.gif

Maybe oculus ( or vr in general) will be what finally gives my i 7's enough of an edge for me to prefer one over my FX rigs - time will tell. Hope I have enough time left to see it become practical - operationally as well as financially lol.

I wonder if minesweeper has oculus support??? tongue.gif
