Gtx 960 or 770?

The 770 has more cores. So it would be better for folding?

I am looking at adding a second card beside my Gtx 960.

Maxwell "cores" are greater than Kelper "cores" for folding. The 770 can do 100k-120k PPD and the 960 can do 160k-180k PPD. Even a 950 can match a 770 nowadays.

Thanks.
Evga has a 770 on their b list.
I will try for another 960 or 970.

960 good, 970 even better thumb.gif

Maybe you can join Team Competition in the Nvidia category with the 960:)

A 950 beats a 770 in folding. So, 960 for sure.

Help! I just bought a GTX 970 off of EVGA b list.

Well, my overtime pay is spent!

How many watts to run a hex core, 960 and 970 at stock levels?

650W is good for single cards. You might be able to get away with lower like a 550w but then you lose your efficiency rating by putting too high a load on the PSU.

TDP on a hex core is 140w and the 960 Nvidia Recommends 400w for it. So you're at 540w already. Which is why I say 650w is what you should get.

im running 2x x5670's and a gtx970 off a 650w (theoretical power is approx 520w), im guessing the xeons pull less power than the i7 but still you should be ok

I have 3 rigs with only the GPU's folding. They are all GTX980's (1480Mhz, 1530Mhz and 1580Mhz). The max system (CPU/monitor, gpu and whatnot) draw I have seen via a kill-a-watt meter was 310watts. So I agree with BeerPowered, that 650W will be enough thumb.gif

i forgot im folding full power on all 3! the gtx 970 is running 1470 core.
