ViewSonic XG2703-GS 165Hz IPS G-Sync. Anyone else interested in this? - Page 4

I was tempted to wait for the viewsonic but buying the Acer seems to be the right move ( that I did ).

Should I wait for the Viewsonic XG2703 to release and buy a cheap 60Hz 1080p IPS for the meantime?

Having used the Acer XB271HU for a few days, its uniformity is a big improvement over the most uniform PG279Q I've seen but I'm still not entirely satisfied with it. For example, when editing a document sometimes the left page looks yellow and the right page looks white, while both pages are actually white. And while reading a pdf document, the top and/or bottom of the page look yellow and the middle looks white, making me wonder whether it's intentional or caused by the panel's bad uniformity. Maybe the Viewsonic turns out to be "uniformity heaven" compared to even the Acer? It isn't really obvious to me that the Viewsonic will have to be comparable qua uniformity to the Asus and Acer, as the uniformity difference between the Asus and Acer is day and night too while they both use a similar panel (you can still see some traces of the Asus's uniformity defects in the Acer if you look carefully, but they're much less pronounced).

Also, I don't really enjoy the coating of the Acer, it looks kinda grainy compared to the Asus and makes reading a text less pleasurable. I don't like the coating at all. Maybe the Viewsonic will have a better coating than the Acer, more like the Asus?

The colors on the Acer look a bit dull compared to the Asus. A slightly sunny picture on the Asus looks more like a cloudy day on the Acer. Maybe the Viewsonic will have Asus-like colors also?

Have you calibrated the Acer?

I feel similarly regarding white uniformity and feel unsure about $750-800 on a monitor that has such problems. I really doubt the Viewsonic will be much better given the panel source.

It's calibrated but even with the calibration it looks dull in-game (compared to Asus). Best way I can describe it is with the idea above: a slightly sunny day on the Asus looks more like a bright but cloudy day on the Acer. It's of course a really minor complaint given all the other issues but I can also not deny the feeling.

What indicates that this should be any better than what there already is, if the Eizo was same crap in different package as well?

The Acer XB271HU is, qua image quality, already a significant improvement over the Asus PG279Q. Maybe Viewsonic will perfect the design, manufacturing and QC further? I'm sure people are willing to pay a premium for their version if the image quality is much better. I for one would. No more lottery. smile.gif

In general it has a much better color uniformity and less backlight bleed.

it has the exact same panel and the same uniformity

BLB depends on how lucky you get with the lottery, Acer can easily be worse than Asus

there is no hard proof on which has worse QC - Acer or Asus .. also Asus may or may not have slightly improved their QC with later units

I sampled 2 ea Asus and Acer units. From my small sample pool, I can absolutely verify rwtd's claims. The Acer's had much less BLB and better uniformity over the Asus units.

Also, the claim they use the same panels is incorrect; the model numbers are slightly different between the two, while specifications are indeed the same.
