A good example would be The Last of Us. It takes something like 20-30 hours and that game is well worth the money.

I would have been disappointed paying for the Last Of Us instead of getting it free with my PS4.

Good main story? Yes.

Linear, repetitive gameplay? Yes.

Each chapter is killing things to get Ellie to the end.

In Fallout, you kill things to complete your fetch quest.

The difference? I'm not constantly forced into the quests in Fallout. I can wander around and check things out. Sometimes find out what happened to other people and their backstory. I can build things etc.

In Last of Us, every time I entered an interesting location, you didn't get to learn much about what happened there.

If anything, playing these two games back to back starting the end of last summer, showed me that user ratings from Metacritic have become completely and utterly useless. It's a sad day when professional reviews are more useful than user reviews but that's what Metacritic now is. The pro reviews, even when not favoring the game, still gave it a 6 because the effort and content value are worth that alone. To go in and give a game like this a zero rating is completely asinine beyond words.

I tend to wait till DLC are at LEAST half off. I find 25% of the price isn't justified in a RPG game. I got 120+ hours out of Skyrim, I'm not gonna get 30+ out of one DLC.

Plus I get the added advantage of not being burnt out from the game. Wait for the DLC to got on sale means I had time to sstep back from the game and give myself time to breathe.

That being said, I noticed skyrims main story DLC didnt got more then 50% off till like three years later.

Bring back the expansion packs!

Well, Witcher 3 has technically Expansions. DLC is just used wrongly this day and age. To get the Expansion for Witcher 3 you can only download it. It is very different from DLC they gave out for free.

These comments are so silly and they're getting really old.

There is nothing wrong with DLC itself. There's something wrong with how certain companies handle their DLC. Saying you want DLC to die means you want a method for which we obtain new content for a game easily over the internet to die.

Also, the majority of Bethesda's DLCs are expansions.

If DLC was basically downloadable skins and/or expansion packs, I have no problem with it.
Otherwise, it's garbage.

Then why not just have a problem with the people who put out bad DLC? That's the real issue.

There are plenty of fast-food places putting out terrible and unhealthy food. Should I blame the food for being disgusting or the people making it disgusting?

He is probably not trying to find out the more advanced quests for each faction beyond the first one he joined if he is done and bored after 100 or so hours. Personally, I am on my second 3rd play through as a "ninja" and fighting for either the Minutemen and Railroad.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
First 2 playthroughs I just kind of killed them real quick for either Institute or BoS. I was still angry at them for that Trail to Freedom quest. Gave me headaches trying to search for the red line and markers. My current character is a feisty red headed melee stealth character that is basically a slut (trying to romance everyone for LOL's) who is sarcastic and/or cocky whenever possible and loves killing people. Her and Cait meshed very well. Oh and she is also a junkie... Anywho, here is what I found out for this build for those who are interested; it kind of sucks until you get a melee weapon like a super sledge or one of the unique weapons (Grognak's Axe, Kremvh's Tooth, and Big Jim are all good melee weapons that are reasonably easy to get early on IMO) as you are squishy and sneaking sucks. Once you get powerful enough though to sneak nuke people it becomes a lot easier. Until that happens however, be very wary of battles involving one or more suicider mutants. It is definitely easier to just whip out a pistol and shoot the nuke, but personally I wanted to harvest their mini nukes. tongue.gif

I must agree. "Fans" have become so frothing, so quick to dismiss anything good, and so impossible to please, it seems like unless it's a free game that is tailored to every whim that flickers across their personal subconcious, it "sucks," or worse, is branded today's most idiotic douchelord buzzword, "unplayable." Fallout 4 does not suck and the sticker price of $30 dollars for what amounts to an expansion pack is not outrageous. Believe me, I'm the last guy to defend developers, but this is not egregious behavior.

I can understand your point. Different people look for different things. For me personally The Last of Us is great the way it is. The combat could be a bit better, but overall I feel Last of Us is a better game than Fallout 4. If The Last of Us was more like Fallout 4 then TLOU would probably lose itself in bad pacing.

I love playing both. Open world games like Witcher 3, GTA V and Fallout 4, but I also have a great time with more linear games where you can't stray from the path. After playing a huge open world game for 100 hours I really enjoy the ease of a linear game.

In open world games it is interesting to experience the world through little things like you pointed out. E.g. in The Witcher 3 reading a letter found on a corpse or in Fallout 4 reading log files on a computer and then later finding a corpse who was mentioned in the log file you just read.
Or in Dark Souls it is great to find out about what happened by reading item descriptions.

Yeah, I have never understood the griping about Fallout 4. The game does not suck at all and the graphics are not as bad as people try to make you believe.

It is a combination of entitled graphics whores upset that developers are not pushing the graphical boundaries so they can justify their purchase of multiple monitors and/or high end GPU's and miserable people who really just like to cry about everything. Who cares how it looks as long as you have fun playing it? If someone isn't the type that would enjoy FO4, then that person is not the type that liked FO3 and up (chances are you didn't like TES either) so why the heck would they even purchase FO4 is beyond me. Quite frankly, the DLC for Bethesda games (barring a couple of notable exceptions) have been well worth both their asking price and the season passes.
