So is the 770, which used to rival the 280X (7970 rebrand). now the latter is catching up on the 780.

It, and the HD7950, are probably the closest thing we have to a 8800GT-type longevity. I've never seen a GPU hold on to its performance this well, and it's freaky. This might just be a characteristic of GCN, who knows. The Radeon R9 290 is also doing something similar.

What's really crazy is that GCN is just getting started. DX12 / Vulkan hasn't even hit yet, the advancements have all been in optimizing DX11 so far.

We'll continue to see Tahiti and Hawaii in benches probably for another 18 months or more.

That's what I expect as well, two more years before it becomes really, really, really (okay, for real this time... no wait, we're back again) obsolete and not worth testing.

I wonder how GTX 690 owners feel. 2GB of VRAM, two forgotten and fairly decent GPUs, and a whole lotta performance left on the table. People expected that card to also last a few years, and it was relevant for only a year and a half.

I really thinks it's a working X2 they are going to show and announce the launch. Late or not late and no matter what brand it is, it then is the fastest single pcb graphics cards in the world with the best DX12 performance.

It's probably to soon to really show something about ZEN or Polaris except slides.

But who knows it can be anything, maybe they secretely made a hybrid between a potato and a lemon. That would also spice things up but even then it would be stated on the known timetable/schedule

Seeing as they showed off 2 Polaris cards back in January, I'd say that Polaris is ready to be shown off to the public.

Well 690 was the first to sport the magnesium alloy cooler that eventually got to be associated with the OG Titan, it was also a $999 card. So in a way it's like the first Titan card of sorts.

OT: Tom's even has a piece on the development of that magnesium alloy cooler. Pretty interesting read.

Talking is good but now it's time to deliver. With 20% market share, it's not time to continue with hot air talking like during the Fiji presentation in June (blablabla powered).

Because "Project Quantum" probably won't see the light like Discovery didn't.

Project Quantum,Fury X2 and VR is the plan, realized as the FalconNW VR "console".

The 690 was actually a pretty cool card. I liked the cooler even better than Titan, but within 6 months the 2GB vram became a heavy bottleneck for the card and the stuttering started biggrin.gif

The 2GB vram is the reason I think the card was a joke. It was destined to have a short life as soon as it launched with so little VRAM.
