Define S or Mastercase 5 Pro ?

Thread Starter
Hi guys, i would like to ask you which case do you prefer in terms of watercooling potential ? Next month i will possibly get a Define S as this case really "turned me on" since i know it came out, let me explain why :

I always wanted to start some watercooling loop, in fact back in the days i wanted to mod my 200R to support 360 rad in the front(LINK HERE) but this case start to piss me off, at least the included fans became noisy, vibrating even when i lube them. so i thought about changing all the fans, (7x120 mm, approx 20€ each = 140€ for fans.) Shipping NOT included.

then when i knew about the define S and saw it at 79€ shipping free on Amazon.fr

So i will save some bucks + this case support a fair amount of watercooling stuff out of the box. And, it's a fractal design case so it will be (In theory) very silent.

Then few month later Cooler Master announced the Mastercase 5 Pro (priced at 149€ on Amazon.fr Shipping free.)

What i like about this case :

- Handles, pretty usefull in case of a LAN Party.
- Modularity
- Seems pretty spacious overall without all the HDD cages.
- PSU and other components separation, looks pretty clean.

What i don't like :

- Less radiator surface area availlable compared to the define S
- No sound dampening material.
- HDD not "hiden" behind the mobo tray.

My needs are mostly watercooling, silence, space, i mean, 5 Drives are more than enough for me as i'm gaming on my pc (at least nowdays, who know what the future will be made of.)

i prefer higher space drives than multiple low space. But 5 drives bays still enough if one day i decide to what ever else.

For the watercooling stuff, for now, i will be only watercool CPU and GPU (maybe SLI if i need it.)

I'm affraid that in the mastercase 5 pro i will lack space between all this stuff, which seems to not to be the case in the Define S (see HERE)

In conclusion, the mastercase 5 pro seems less watercooling freindly, less """"usefull"""" and cost way more than the define S, Still. i wanted to have your feedbacks guys ! ,)

Handles for a LAN party? You are a brave soul to trek your watercooled PC around in my opinion lol. I built a little cube (CM Elite 110, it's freakin adorable) for that. In my opinion, I like the watercooling support of the Define S as well. I like that is has those nice slots to mount your reservoir, can hold freakin huge radiators, and to boot, I think it looks really clean. As cool as the Master Case 5 is, I would vote for the Define S. It seems like it fits more of your criteria than the CM case.

Handles are usefull as well for maintenance, if i need to move the pc

I like the look of the mastercase 5 as much as the define S, the only thing is that i think that both cases with the same config, the mastercase 5 will be competing for space.

Define S in my vote.
The best way to decide this is take coin, heads-DS, tails M5. Flip it, mid air your brain should decide what you truly want it to land on via heads or tails before it lands.... boom there you have it...If that makes sense.

As someone who owns a Define S...thats my vote. You can always add handles to the case, and fairly easily too, it will take more effort to add rad space to the Mastercase 5.

Thanks for your feedback, it really help me a lot, cuz in the mean time i try to imagine my components in each cases, + with watercooling stuff seems easier in the define S indeed but i also liked the "each thing have is own place" and the ease of use of the mastercase 5.

I would vote for adding handles as well. If it's easier to a loop in the Define S, I would say go for it. It's nice to not have do a ton of tricky tubing routing in my experience. Sometimes you need fancy fittings with odd layouts and they add up quick.

The define s if you open the top it removes the "silence" feature it has.
Mastercase is limited to slim rad or I think a 45mm rad in pull only.
