Need some advice on "noisy" laptop

Thread Starter
So this is going to be a rather weird one.

Recently I bought myself a Gigabyte p55w and for the most part I cannot be happier with it (runs like a champ) but I have started to hear a very strange "noise" coming from the Laptop speakers. I hear the same noise when I use a headset that's plugged into the laptop's 3.5mm jack (which would make sense in a way), the first weird part is that I still get the noise when I have USB speakers plugged in (but not from the USB speakers, only from the Laptop, which would make sense in a way).

From everything I have read online it could be RF interference, power supply interference (Still RF in a way) or it could be ground loop feedback, the third being HIGHLY unlikely as I am getting the noise from the laptop and not some external audio "thingy".

So in an attempt to try and figure out what is going on I started by fiddling with the Idea that I am getting RF interference from somewhere so I started with my phone. Moving it closer to the laptop did not impact the noise at all but unplugging it (I have it plugged it most of the time) changed the noise, it did not go away it just changed. This leads me to understand the I am getting RF interference through the USB cable and not through proximity (this should not be the case but OK)

Next I went to my power brick, if I have it plugged in (powering the laptop) I get the noise, if I unplug it the noise goes away. When I have my phone plugged in the noise does not quite go away but become near impossible to notice unless I actively try to listen for it.

So having read all of that, is there anything else I can do to try an figure out what is causing the noise and if at all possible do something about it?

Any advice/opinions/suggestions welcome.

Thanks in advance.

If the system is that prone to RF interference, it's probably defective. Personally, I'd try to get a replacement.

*sigh* Well thats not really what I wanted to hear BUT you may be right... Guess I will just have to go the the motions...

On a side note (as I have not really herd RF interference before now) is the noise supposed to sound like coil whine?

It can sound like coil whine coming from the speakers.

So, as an update. I got myself a set of Corsair Void USB's (rather nice set of cans tbh) to try and "ignore" the RF interference. BUT I am getting it through the headset as well, I was under the impression that this kind of noise was not transferable through USB. Unless I can find a solution to this problem I am going to get this laptop replaced when I get home in a couple of weeks because for what I payed for this laptop I shouldn't have to live with poor audio quality....

It's a power jack issue. Sounds to me like this is a fairly serious one at that. I'd personally try to get it returned asap because that kind of power leakage should never occur with any laptop. I had the same issue with my toshiba qosmio, the other laptop in my sig, and it fried two USB ports and my Headphone port before I managed to fix the issue second-hand.
