silly question. notebook/netbook windows update from 8 to 10 is it possible?

Hi, I would like to know if its possible to update preinstalled windows 8.1 on the notebook to the windows 10 for free as it possible to do as desktop user?

Q: is it possible/allowed by microsoft via automatic updates or is this microsoft promotion allowed only for desktops?
Q: if it would be possible would all the drivers etc. work without problems?
Q: if I would want to do restore/backup/reinstall would it go back to windows 8.1 again?
Q: would they windows key at bottom of notebook now only work as windows 10 key or it would work only for the old windows if I decide to reinstall?

I know its lots of question and it would take me days to figure all this out, so I thought maybe if someone have the answer right off the bat they could share it with me, thank you very much to anyone who decide to help me out here.

-I upgraded my wife's laptop from 8.1 to 10 with no problem.
-Drivers and everything should be just fine
-It would restore back to whatever your restore point was.
-The key shouldn't be an issue because it is tied to that computer.

hope this helps you

Just wanted to add to this that windows 10 creates a rather large directory so you can go back to your old OS I believe it keeps it for a month (maybe longer?). You can view details here http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/going-back-to-windows-7-or-windows-81

Also I've upgraded numerous laptops to 10 with some having minor driver issues for sound or cd-rom but easily fixed with a reboot and/or searching for the driver from the manufacturers site of the peripheral or from your computer supplier I.E lenovo, dell, etc.

Is it a full version of Windows 8 home or pro? If so, you should be able to. What model is it and what are the specs OP?
