UPDATE

I received the Cryorig H5 and the red sleeved EVGA power supply cables.

I have to say during the unboxing of the H5 I was amazed by the sheer size of it! Even though this is my second go around at completing my first rig it was my first time working with a CPU cooler. The bloody thing was beautiful brilliant and monstrous all in one.

The installation was easy and I'm pretty pleased with the end result.

Here's the CPU after removing the thermal paste using a 91 percent isopropyl wipe

And here is the completed installation

After I finished the CPU cooler I spent the remainder of my time connecting the fan hub, CPU fan, pci-e, etc. I sadly made the rookie mistake of installing the CPU cooler without routing and connecting the cables first. *COUGHS* but I got it done

Back of the case

And now the finished product

Next up...testing and finishing he missing details

So after all that I plug in the power cord to the PSU and...no trickle power. Nothing. Nada. I check the power cord and reseat it; issue persists. Tried a known good power cord...same result. Had a spare psu lying around and tried that one...power to the board. So, looks like my Evga is DOA. Oh well. Ordered a new due tomorrow and sending the other back to Amazon.

Meantime, could use some feedback on the finishing touches.

1) I like the look of the red ram but I was thinking abut the corsair dominator a due to their aesthetics and very subtle led lighting. If you were me would what speed would you choose? 2666 or 3000? Noting that real world results seem to fade away around the 2666 mark. Second, 16 or 32gig kit (seeing as I already have 16 in this guy since the board is dual channeled), third what led lighting should I go with? Clear or red? And finally would the profile of this ram hinder airflow?

2) Performance wise for high end 1440k at 6phz for gaming. Any bottlenecks you see based on my specs? Im concerned that I should probably purchase a higher end ssd drive.

3) any other custom little details I should add?

I'll just say that you should check the motherboard compatibility lists concerning RAM and SSDs - I just ran into this issue for the first time ever. I guess the Z170s are still that new that not all components are compatible yet - I'm having to wait for a BIOS update, or change my RAM (it POSTS but only with 2 RAM modules instead of 4).

Something to think about, otherwise looking great so far thumb.gif

@ Doyll: So I want to make sure I'm understanding correctly. What you're saying is and, correct me if I'm wrong here, I should paint the logo red? Lol smile.gif

I wholeheartedly agree. I've never done any case/component mods before. Any ideas how I could get the Cryorig symbol red besides carefully using a red sharpie? tongue.gif

@ Haha: Thanks! smile.gif yeah, I'm kinda surprised but then again I guess it's only been out a few months. That's basically why I haven't gone down the msata. New usually means "headaches." I prefer reliability over blazing performance.

Looking good.

Really odd the EVGA PSU would be DOA. Probably a silly question, but did you try the included cables? The PSUs are all tested before they are boxed, but I doubt that the cables are.

.
I would just photoshop the logo red and scale it to size, print it on clear contact media, or even white paper is it's a color match to cooler white and tape it on.
Here's a guide to using contact paper

Alternative would be to take scaled and colored log file to print shop .. or maybe a sign shop for a overlay.

@Ciarlatano: I never complimented you on your avatar. Appreciate foamy the squirrels outlook on life smile.gif the power supply was open box so not sure but I did test with two different known good power cords and PSU MB cables.

Good news is I received the new power supply and....it lives!!!

Ok, now that I'm up and running a few bugs that I need to work out.

1) Tried to enable xmp and upped the frequency of the ram from 2133 to 2400. Board freaked out which, is strange because the memory is rated for 2400.

2) regular hdd is not recognized. Have to see if it shows up in device manager and troubleshoot from there

3) ordered two red sata cables which, should arrive tomorrow

4) Still contemplating the dominator ram due to my ocd concerning empty ram slots and ambient lighting (Subtle. Not fast and furious).

5) and of course the red logo for the cooler smile.gif

6) consider rgb strips as an alternative to ram lightings
