Psu downgrade safe?

Hello, how are you?
I currently have a XFX Pro black series 850w psu on my system.
the system runs good and I like the psu.
but my case is a Bitfenix prodigy and the psu has a hard time fitting in there.
So I am looking to go for a shorter non modular psu.
but 140,mm PSUs come in 750w gold rated tops.

is 750w enough for the system to be stable and not at top psu load?
this is my current system?

Asus Maximus VIII impact
I5 6600k at 4.8
2x8gb corsair ddr4
noctua nh-d14 with 3 fans total
spectre pro 230mm fan
1 Samsung 840 evo ssd
2x 2tb toshiba 3.5 7200rpm hdd
sapphire 390X Tri-X oc

i currently run these voltages:
vcore 1.4
vccio 1.2
system agent 1.25
vdimm 1.35

390x runs 1160 core and 6800 memory.
power limit to +50
core voltage to +30mv

Is it safe to downgrade the psu?
I would also like to have a good margin for future upgrades.
But I don't intend to go larger than itx or go for more than one GPU in the future.
what are your thoughts?

Thanks.
cheers!

This system can run on a quality 550w, so 750w is no problem.

Hello,

After much research, I decided to go for a Silverstone PSU with the PP05-E short cable kit.
The cable kit features short cables and flat cables so they sould be easier to bend and route than a non modular PSU.
Also, the silverstone units are 150mm deep, so they should work on a Prodigy.
Anyone here uses such a psu on a Prodigy case?

Also, regarding the choices, I am torn between:
SST-ST75F-GS Strider Gold Series - 750 Watt - 110 Euros
+3,3V: 22 A
+5V: 25 A
3,3+5V: 150 W
+12V: 62 A (744 W)
-12V: 0,3 A (3,6 W)
+5Vsb: 3,5 A (17,5 W)
or...
SST-ST85F-GS Strider Gold Series - 850 Watt - 145 Euros
+3,3V: 22 A
+5V: 25 A
3,3+5V: 150 W
+12V: 70 A (840 W)
-12V: 0,3 A (3,6 W)
+5Vsb: 3,5 A

Is the 750W model enough and safe for OC?
Also, how do yoy think future cards will be in regard to power consuption? Pascal or future amd cards?
Will they be more energy efficient? Even future top tier cards?
Or will they require more power than a current 390X?
I ask because I want to get the PSU right this time and be able to safely upgrade in the future without having to swap PSU again.

Thanks.
Cheers!

The Cooler Master V series are both better and shorter so dont buy a SilverStone.
And again you dont need a 750 or 850 watt PSU unless you are going to add a second video card.

Your system draws less power then you think it does and the system you have in the OP WITH OC! draws 350 watts at most.
Unless you have BIOS volt mod on your video card.

Most of the SilverStone units are average at best and mediocre at worst.
As for video cards assume the power draws are going to be the same as they have been the pretty much the same for years.

Thank you for your reply.
I currently have a XFX 850w black edition.
Is it much better than any of the Silverstone units I listed?
I used a psu calculator for my syste and the result came at 570w peak.

Cheers!

The XFX you have now is better then the SilverStone units you are looking at.
And forget about those so called power calculators they are all wrong and a total waste of time so you have been misinformed.

Power draws on systems with a single video card even with OC are below 400 watts and often less then 300 watts.

As you can see here your system draws a lot less power then you think it does.
There are even more videos that says the same thing.

According to the psu tier list here on the forum, my XFX black edition is a tier 1 psu while the Silverstone 750w model is a tier 4 unit...
Só based on this, should I totally forget the downgrade?

Cheers
I dont go by that tier list myself but you might as well keep your XFX as there is no reason to get something worse then what you already have.
What you have is based on the Seasonic KM3 platform which is the same as the newest Seasonic X.

Yes, that is the big issue.
But if my psu is much better, might just get a new case instead,, something like a Core V21...

I'm still trying to figure out what to do.

Cheers
