Do you think that if a Chinese company wanted to buy into Intel, that the US government would allow that? Also you guys should know that China has very strict regulations on how foreign companies are treated within their lands as well.

Also, FYI, they might go bankrupt if they acquire SanDisk, historically, it's very tricky to buy up a company. Many times the shareholders of the bought company do so much better since their shares are bought heavily overvalued, and the buying company pays too much and usually doesn't execute the post buy-out properly. WD could execute it properly, but they still have some on their board who don't think it's a good idea.
We aresaying hdd will be dead in the future, without the chinese investwment they probably can't afford to buy sandisk, and therefore have a smaller point of entry into the ssd market

WD isn't some random company, and they can just borrow money to buy Sandisk, but HDDs aren't going anywhere right now. There isn't enough SSD production capacity in the world to fulfill the growing demand for storage space, I thought there was but my friend who is a storage editor at Tom's Hardware explained to me why it would be impossible for current data-centers to switch over to SSDs at this point. Also, the pullout of the Chinese company makes it easier for them to acquire SanDisk.

Under the agreement with SanDisk, because the Unis investment had not closed or been terminated by the time the acquisition was completed, Western Digital will pay $67.50 per share in cash and 0.2387 shares of Western Digital common stock per share of SanDisk common stock. Had the agreement with Unis been closed, Western Digital would have paid $85.10 per share and 0.0176 shares of its stock for each outstanding share of SanDisk common stock.According to Western Digital, the revised offer for SanDisk values the offer at $78.50 per share based on Monday’s closing price for Western Digital stock. The termination of the Unis investment means that shareholders of both companies must approve the transaction. Western Digital now expects the acquisition to close in the second quarter, a quarter earlier than its initial plan.

Where the hell is this coming from? Whether SanDisk sells at 100 Billion or 100 Thousand ultimately makes no difference to Uncle Sam. The Tax revenue from that is a drop in the bucket. The fact that SanDisk might possibly be bought for 20 Billion cheaper doesn't matter to Uncle Sam. The fiscal value here means nothing. No, this is done strictly to prevent the Chinese from getting technical expertise and IP to help them manufacture their own hardware components for Supercomputers, military technology, and commercial competition. In short, the American Gov. is protecting their interests by shielding OUR domestic partners from the Chinese. The Chinese Gov. is already very well known for stealing IP once they get their hands on it. China once ordered Sukhoi advanced multi-role aircraft from Russia, straight up copied every single part they could from it.

Once China gets access to IP, they immediately plunder it and seemingly "donate" it to the Chinese Gov. It's ridiculous and I absolutely agree with American stance on this.

You went all the way. Never go all the way, man.

Thank you for actually having a nuanced stance on the nature of storage, other than "HDDS SUCK SSDS ROOL LOL." HDDs will not be dead anytime soon.

Plus it seems many of you are ignoring that WD does have an SSD presence through HGST.

Why don't you read Confessions Of An Economic Hitman first and then come talk about stealing IP and industrial espionage.

No thanks.

Obviously you don't understand the meaning of tu quoque and that website is tripe, concocting stories about Bin La La. I am asking you to educate yourself by reading a book and you are claiming instead of rebutting your accusation I am turning the accusation on you. As this goes right back to my first reply we can continue this discussion in private if you wish to continue.

At no time was I actually refering to the trades taxable value, just refering to how hdd will die and so will WD and after bankruptcy everyone will sweep the assets anyways

Are you some sort of mystical technology oracle? The HDD is not going to die. Sure in the consumer world they are playing a lesser role but it's the enterprise market that drives the needs of the industry. Tape drives are still being used for long term archival backup of data, if the cost of HDDs continues to decline along with a linear increase in capacity their not going anywhere.

So honestly who cares if WD is owned by american rich people or chinese rich people. They're both part of the nation of rich people and they have more in common with eachother then with their "fellow" citizens.

Intel actually has an IP Czar at their fab in China. No joke. Any type of media in or out of the site gets scanned and so no bytes can change. Any laptop comes and goes with the exact same data. Some fabs don't even allow laptops, USB drives, etc.

Tsinghua Unigroup is not just rich people. Its state owned. The Chinese government. They buy companies with IP and market share as its faster to buy than to build up their own technology.

Unigroup made a public offer for the company I work for as well and that was shot down and we serve very similar markets.
