Is the video card faulty?

Thread Starter
PC I'm talking about is in my sig.

How can I be sure my video card is faulty without having a different motherboard/video card to test it?

It crashes for I dont know what reason either to black screen (like the monitor is getting no signal from the video card) or with colored vertical lines over the screen. Both times the PC keeps running and I'm forced to reboot.

I can boot to Windows most of the times, sometimes it would just be a black screen.
I can run furmark most of the times (havent tried it longer than 4 minutes, I feel like if the GPU is faulty it should crash instantly) and sometimes it crashes instantly.
It would also crash when I'm simply using the browser (even when I wasn't doing anything GPU heavy) and it once crashed when I was changing settings in BIOS (this excludes faulty GPU drivers) .

The crashes started few days after I installed Windows 10+Crimson Edition drivers. At the time of the very first crash I was playing Shogun 2 and watching videos at Youtube when my brother/AI were finishing their turns.

The temps are fine, all the cores (CPU and GPU) remain below 90 C under 100% load. One time I was lucky to have GPU-Z open when it crashed and all the GPU cores were under 40 C.

Things I have tried to make my PC functional again:
1. Installed older drivers (it would also crash with Windows default drivers) and yes I did uninstall the older drivers properly using the DDU and AMD Clean Uninstall Utility.
2. Installed Windows 8.1, then installed Windows 10 again (havent tried Ubuntu, but at this point it would feel silly already)
3. Running PC at defaults Clocks
4. Cleaned my PC
5. Replaced thermo paste on GPU and CPU
6. Tested PSU with 400W Codegen
7. Tested RAM sticks one by one

I'm thinking the VRAM got damaged, but I failed to test it properly. (it wouldnt allow me to choose all of my GPU's RAM)

I guess this it, I dont know what other information I can give to solve this puzzle.

What you are describing could be any number of thins such as the PSU or RAM.
Do you have a digtal multi meter on hand you can test the PSU with or a spare PSU you can try?

As for RAM try and take out all but one RAM stick and see if that helps or not.
If not try another RAM stick in another slot and if that does not help at least you have ruled RAM out.

That Corsair TX you have listed its not this one is it?

Forgot to mention already, but I did test the PSU and RAM already.

I had my old 400W Codegen lying around and the problem was same (750w Corsair hasn't gotten its limits tested I think).

Tested the RAM sticks one by one.

Yeah, should be that PSU, the orange color on the PSU is yellow thou.

Then its either the video card or the motherboard.
And no you cant really rule either out unless you try another video card.

Do you have a card you can borrow from someone?
As for TX you have is it the one i gave you a link to or the one you have under your sig?

The one i gave you a link to is terrible so if you have that one you should think about replacing it as its terrible.

This happened with my HD6950 a bit over a year ago and I still have no idea what caused it or whether or not it could have been fixed. I replaced it and all was good again. I would still find another GPU to test with though to be certain it is your GPU, if you don't know anyone with a spare maybe look at a low profile $20 one or something.

This is my PSU:
http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Enthusiast-Series-Bronze-TX750/dp/B004MYFODI

Yours looks a little different, so I'm not sure if they are the same.

I might be able to lend a GPU from someone, but I'm not rushing to furmark someone elses card to be honest.

They are not the same as the one you have is pretty good and the one i showed you is terrible.
Anyway never mind so moving on.

You could try and find a dirt cheap card on ebay or something just to try out if you dont want to borrow a card from someone.

I ran memtest86 on one stick of RAM, no errors, didn't crash.

Then I tried the RAM sticks in different slots and I would still get crashes. (while using OS)

The crashes seem really random, sometimes I can use the PC for 5 hours, other times it would crash within 5 minutes.

Anyway, borrowed a 4850 from a friend, gonna use it for few days, should get my answer then.

Thanks to everyone!

I'll bet money this is happening because your graphics card is overheating, or has been damaged by heat, or was defective right out of the factory and can not dissipate heat properly.

Faulty or damaged memory modules mostly end in BSOD, or don't even make it past POST sequences. It's not your memory.
