Budget Craigslist Desktop

So, long story short I thought I would be able to dump 2k on a laptop for everything that I need but I just cant do that anymore. The plans at the end of the year are growing and as a result my budget is shrinking. Ill probably still buy a laptop later on but this time it will be in Korea and not in the U.S.

In any case, I found this list of parts in Craigslist.

CPU: Intel Core i5-3570 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor
Motherboard: Biostar TZ77A ATX LGA1155 Motherboard
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 760 2GB Superclocked ACX Video Card
Case: Cooler Master HAF 912 ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: Corsair Enthusiast 650W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply

Price: 390 for everything

Is there anything I should be weary about? I dont mind a locked processor as its generally what I use for quite some time anyways

I could see myself adding a used R9 290 and an SSD but that would likely be it.

Should I try to push the price down by asking for no OS? I have Win7/8.1 through Dreamspark so I am not concerned in the slightest about it...

You could probably shave a few bucks off by getting s lower wattage PSU, 650w for a 760 is a bit much.

This is a used personal listing not a store front.

It's a fair price I gueess for the parts listed.

It doesn't sound that bad. It's hard to say without knowing your local market how good the pricing is.

The motherboard and power supply are on the average side of average. But it is craigslist, so you can always show up and hammer the seller to save some money.

Market isnt that great in Houston, if you guys can find something else for a similar price and a better GPU then I would be all for it for sure smile.gif

Though this system look quite balanced and I could throw in the 290 and maybe make the 760 a folder/physx card, then the 650w PSU would be at capacity

What sort of cooling does the system have?
Also note that the HAF 912 is tiny so room is not something you have a lot of in that case.

Well it's either this or I build a super cheap mitx pc.

The cooling is just a stock heat sink fan for the cpu

Been entertaining the idea of getting an mitx and fill it with what I can for 500

Can you get similar hardware for 500 though?

I was recently in the same position, but in Canada. Sold my gaming PC like 4 months ago and wanted a new one but the new prices here suck, and new stuff coming soon. I ended up grabbing the Dell for 275 on Kijiji which is what a none K i5 costs here so it was a no brainer. I just added the 750 Ti so I didn't have to mess around with a new PSU and it being replaced later on any ways.

390 seems like a pretty good deal. As is you will get a very nice gaming experience with that for cheap.

I ended up extending my budget to 700 and I have built the following

i5 2500k w/ Seidon 120v
EVGA Z77 Stinger
8GB G Skill Ares 2400mhz
750w SuperNOVA B2
CM Elite 130
R9 290x Gaming 4GB
512GB SSD

Here's hoping I can bring it with me to Korea and back when needed.

It's not bad for the price. I got a similarly performing system mostly new though

Fx 8310 $80 (last year no longer available)
Hyper 212+ evo $25
970a-ud3p $70
2* 4gb 2400 mhz
280x (had but around $160 on eBay)
Cx430m ($25)
Wd 1tb ezex ($45)

Your system should be comparable and my son games at 1080p easily

The $709 system is a massive upgrade with the 290x
