Asus X99-E WS not recognizing Android phone by USB

Hi, I have an Asus X99-E WS motherboard running Windows 10 Pro. I am having trouble with it when connecting USB devices.
It first started when I connected my HP printer to the usb. All I got was device not recognized but yet I could print wirelessly. I tried a couple of different cables and eventually it started working when connected to the USB.
Now however my Android phone is not recognized even though it was last week. I have connected my phone to a laptop running Windows 10 pro and it works fine but all I get when I connect it to my pc is the constant beeping of a device being connected and disconnected even though I don't remove it from the usb port. I have tried all the ports and uninstalled and reinstalled drivers but no improvement.
I hope this community can help as I don't want this to keep happening when I connect usb devices.

What phone is this? Charging port socket could be damaged on the phone. If you can, take a picture of the charging port.

Hi, my phone is a HTC ONE M8 running Android 6.0. It works fine when connected to my laptop running windows 10. When charging option on my phone is selected it works fine but when I select file transfer option on my phone the PC starts the beeping noise for connecting and disconnecting of a USB device. I have attached two pics of the charging port.

Ok charging port looks fine, if you want you can try cleaning it a bit. It looks a bit dirty inside - A buildup of dust that needs to be pushed out with something such as a toothpick. When you plug a cable into the phone, it should have a firm connection and the plug should not wiggle and come off too easily.

Thank you for your reply. I contacted Asus support and they gave me a couple of suggestions. The one that worked was to enable debugging mode on my phone. Once I did that the PC recognized the phone but as soon as I disable it the PC won't recognize it again. I don't want to leave USB debugging enabled all the time.
Do you have any idea why enabling this mode works?
