R9 280x power consumption - Page 2

I have no idea its was a case and psu deal, its at my friends house as its on loan, has been running the dual core for 9 years no problem, I had to buy bigger psu for my Athlon 2 x4 620 with its 5850, I bought cheap brand too, Aopen 1000 watt extreme, it failed 3 years later just after warranty ended. rolleyes.gif
as for the calculator thingy, I bought a 750 watt for my fx with one 280x, the calculator said it would if I remember right 800 watts for two 280x and yes the evga 750 could not power the two gpus. it was spot on.
cost too, I had to pay to return the 750 watt and change it to a 1000watt and pay for shipping again, nightmare. mad.gif
better to buy bigger to be sure tongue.gif and brand over quantity. think a cheap 1000 would not fail if your running a 600 watt system, wrong that idea.

wish you was here when I bought that aopen psu, could have saved me the hassle. wink.gif

oh and OP: how cheap is the 280x?, I got my gigabyte 280x's for £130 each new. that was April last year.

100 dollars is the cost of the GPU,

Anyways, I'll probably get a newer psu I just wanted to know if this will work in the meantime. I'm kind of on a restricted budget at the moment. Thank you for all your contributions everyone.

Don't worry, The cx430 would work fine with a 280x, Its good enough for even a longer run till you can save up enough for a psu upgrade.
Just don't overclock the card, run it @ stock, you won't have any issues.

Also, the 280x is a great card, have fun! smile.gif

Yes. If you really want to be safe using the same PSU . . . undervolt. Checkout the club. I believe some have been doing it even maintaining same clocks. The 280X is like 3 X the 7790.

I basically have a Corsair CX430, 32a on the 12v rail and I was wondering if it would be compatible with an R9 280x, as I've stumbled upon one for dirt cheap.

Thanks.

firstly the cpu in your sig rig will kinda bottle neck AFAIK
secondly a 280X will at min need a quality 500w PSU (AT MIN) i would suggest you to get the psu @rdr09 recommended BUT keep in mind your cpu will bottle neck overclocking your cpu will hog in another 50watts at min xD so it will be pretty neck in neck

No, A 280x requires a psu with at least 20a on its 12V rail. The cx430 with 32a on its 12v rail is more than sufficient for a 280x.
