Tahiti = Start 2012 (7970, 7970GHz, 280X) till 2014

Replacement for Tahiti = Tonga (285 + 380 + 380X) = September 2014 = FAIL!!! (nVidia out GM204, massive performance/efficiency advantages), till 2016

Hawaii (290/x) = Oct 2013 = Awful launch = another REBRANDING GALORE (390/x), till 2016

Fiji = mid-2015 = very low interest compared to 390X, showcase GPU, Impact on sales ? Almost 0 = FAIL!!!

"AMD, The way it's meant to be rebranded"

Just wait a while for DX12. FuryX trashes 980ti in DX12 and 390x is on par. 2016 will be a very interesting year for AMD

Too bad Nvidia can't run DX12 well......No async shader as well.....FAIL

Keep in mind that 'unspecified industry sources' could mean 'nvidia sales rep', for all I know.

There might be some merit to this story, but we'll see. AMD's strategy has been in line with this anyhow, as seen by the latest earnings report and outlook thing.

Isn't that a bit of an excessive expectation though? The last time I remember a card in a mid-range price bracket specifically doubling the performance of the one it replaced was back when the HD4850 was released to replace the 3850 (for ~$30 more mind you), which was 2008.

It's a pity that their driver department hadn't achieved back then what they've achieved now. It seems we're seeing performance matching and at times surpassing the 980Ti while, at least here in South Africa, being nearly identically priced. Although I suppose if you bring overclocking into the equation it probably loses its appeal to some.

No surprise there considering that Piledriver came out over 3 years ago. I thought AMD's GPU marketshare was gaining though.

I'm really curious every time I hear of Fury X being the same price as 980Ti, it's never been like that in Poland. Those are the prices as of now. Hell, if you search for reference 980Ti you'll be able to get it for about the same price as Fury non-X. I paid 2950 for my 980Ti in the summer, that's still cheaper than any Fury X costs 6 months later.

What I'll write is not meant to be a witty or offensive, but I've heard that "wait a while" sentence for a year or possibly more and I think it's gotten to the point that I'm having mild headaches every time I hear it again.

Here, the Fury X is about €20 cheaper than the Ti but that's Club3D one and MSI is about €10 cheaper.

NVidia has a mutual enemy to AMD and that's Intel. Intel is cutting into them both. NVidia used to be the iGPU on laptops for Intel systems, that changed. Intel is greatly improving it's iGPU technology, obviously it's still crud, but as long as AMD or NVidia do not diversify their products they'll end up both dead to the conglomerate.

for Nvidia may be.

For AMD they can still rely on APU if the Zen performance are right around Intel's.

IMO, AMD should have just make a 300w tdp super APU and kill all the discrete GPU already.
