IMO, AMD should have just make a 300w tdp super APU and kill all the discrete GPU already.

They would only kill the low-mid range GPU's with that (if even that) but I would be up for it. tongue.gif

The quarter in general

AMD’s shipments of desktop heterogeneous GPU/CPUs, i.e., APUs, for desktops decreased 4.3% from the previous quarter, AMD’s shipments were up 30.3% in notebooks. Desktop discrete GPUs increased 6.69% from last quarter, and notebook discrete shipments decreased 1.3%. AMD’s total PC graphics shipments increased 5.2% from the previous quarter.

Intel’s desktop processor embedded graphics (EPGs) shipments increased from last quarter by 6.1%, and notebook processors decreased by -1.7% increased 0.7% from last quarter.

Nvidia’s desktop discrete GPU shipments were down -7.56% from last quarter; and the company’s notebook discrete GPU shipments increased 34.2% increased 8.4% from last quarter.

Total discrete GPU (desktop and notebook) shipments increased 6.57% from the last quarter and decreased -7.01% from last year. Sales of discrete GPUs fluctuate due to a variety of factors (timing, memory pricing, etc.), new product introductions, and the influence of integrated graphics. Overall, the CAGR from 2014 to 2017 is now -4%.

That wasn't possible before further implementations of DX12, and at least in the linked example he is right. We'll have to wait for support from a wider range of titles to see how things will play out.

Oddly enough my buddys 980Ti suffered a 10fps drop in this build over the previous, and I cannot see what would cause that in the notes.

As far as prices go, XFX models here cost ~R12k while the lesser-known and cheaper 980Ti costs about that and all other models jump by a further R4k. However this could be due to the fact that our local retailers are working off of older stock and they have perhaps restocked on the 980Ti since our currency took a nose-dive.

AMD, makes graphic on both APUs and GPUs.
Nvidia, just GPUs.

Still Nvidia have 5% more market share in total. Holy jesus how AMDs CPU division is taking in water. Are they even selling any APUs these days with those numbers? tongue.gif

AMD better hope Polaris will come out swinging, otherwise this year is going to be terrible in terms of revenue. The CPU side looks bleak as hell until Zen arrives, and even then a few high end FX models wouldn't turn the tide. It's going to be an interesting year for AMD, that's for sure.

what I actually imagined is that they make a 125W one, with 8 Zen cores and a r7 370 class GPU and then you could run multi adapter mode with a discrete 16nm 100W AMD Pascal card, that'd be awesome to have around 200W power draw for GPU and CPU yet hugely powerful.
Let's say the integrated GPU would be as powerful as R7 370 and they are able to create a 100W GPU equal in power to R9 380. 370 + 380 could be as fast as 390X if scaling well, and 390X is already mighty fast in DX12.

It sounds cool but what sort of cooling would you need though? I'd imagine either water or a seriously big HSF to disperse 300W of heat. Perhaps once Zen and Polaris have gotten rolling, as by then AMDs reputation will have hopefully improved, making that sort of hardware an easier sell tongue.gif
