Sorry but can you even read the thing? APU's and dGPU's are two different things even in that report. rolleyes.gif AMD has actually sold 6+% more dGPU's (doesnt mean more marketshare but it still matters)

Apparantly you cant read.
On one side they have sold 6% more discrete GPUs.
On the other side, total marketshare of graphics which includes all their products with graphic, including IGPs on APUs, have declined.

What does it tell you? That their CPU division is bleeding all over the place

The whole "wait a while" spiel of AMD is what got them into this situation in the first place.
I am going to give you a hint, a lot of people don't want to "wait a while" they want to do it NOW, not waiting a whole year.

I waited and waited and waited and my 290X got better and better and better biggrin.gif

Jokes aside I agree with you. I feel like AMD gambled to much on the future and Nvidia were more realistic and greedy with what to give people. While AMD had a 3GB 7970 Nvidia gave us a 2GB 680 and stuff like that made people upgrade faster. Once drivers were better the 7970 was a better card than the 680, but sadly the 680 was the better card when it mattered.

Same with 290X and Fury X. Both great cards, but a little too late and a bad presentation paved the way for Nvidias current dominance frown.gif

AMD probably thought DX12 would be adopted faster and 4K monitors more mainstream by now. I really hope Polaris/Pascal will be a better "battle". For the consumers sake.

290X was the first 4K card the released and that was 2.5 years ago. I think AMD should really look more into current performance then build cards for Future.

The quarter in general

AMD’s shipments of desktop heterogeneous GPU/CPUs, i.e., APUs, for desktops decreased 4.3% from the previous quarter, AMD’s shipments were up 30.3% in notebooks. Desktop discrete GPUs increased 6.69% from last quarter, and notebook discrete shipments decreased 1.3%. AMD’s total PC graphics shipments increased 5.2% from the previous quarter.

Intel’s desktop processor embedded graphics (EPGs) shipments increased from last quarter by 6.1%, and notebook processors decreased by -1.7% increased 0.7% from last quarter.

Nvidia’s desktop discrete GPU shipments were down -7.56% from last quarter; and the company’s notebook discrete GPU shipments increased 34.2% increased 8.4% from last quarter.

Total discrete GPU (desktop and notebook) shipments increased 6.57% from the last quarter and decreased -7.01% from last year. Sales of discrete GPUs fluctuate due to a variety of factors (timing, memory pricing, etc.), new product introductions, and the influence of integrated graphics. Overall, the CAGR from 2014 to 2017 is now -4%.

Seems I was wrong.

On a side note, it is interesting to see the trend in GPU shipments over time:

I know Nvidia was diversifying into the mobile sector but even the tablets market is on a decline:

Performance per dollar increases as time progresses. Only a fool would "invest" in technology for "future" performance.

Are you telling me in 2013 a 4GB card could not game 4K the same as 6GB card 2015? I say 290X is 4K card because I use it for 4K gaming. 4K does not mean 4K Ultra settings.

No gamble. Directx 12 is the progression of ATi Stream Computing a.k.a. AMD DirectCompute. Doing the same work with less ROPs via compute shading. AMD just bet on actual work units and Nvidia on the translation layer.
