If Vivendi does have a hand in game development as Blizzard claimed, or at least the smallest type of interaction then I absolutely trust them more than anything Ubisoft can ever inspire to, I would in fact go as far to say this is the greatest thing to happen to the gaming industry and Canada will hopefully join Vivendi on this endevaour.
Where's your proof that Vividendi had anything to do with those franchises?...

They were pretty much just majority shareholders. To say they had anything to do with them without sourcing it is just silly. The developers are the ones responsible for those franchises, not a majority shareholder.

A majority share holder can decide to what market share should the game cater to, the point of being a major share Holder is to be able to have a say on whats happening with the company.

Can't believe it is a coincidence that what a lot of people considered the best games of each respective gaming category were ruined shortly after Blizzard divided itself from Vivendi, if anything Vivendi track record show success with entertainment material like games and I'm happy they are taking over Ubisoft.

So Starcraft is both the greatest game and greatest mess up?

I assume you meant Starcraft 2, and neither that nor D3 were "one of the biggest mess ups". SC2 is very popular especially in other countries, and D3 ROS has a very large community and isn't even the same game it was at launch. Though it's going downhill due to botters, and Blizzard doesn't seem to care. WoW definitely went downhill though.

Everything you said is speculation though, we have no clue if these shareholders actually have any control over game development. Lot of Blizzard games went downhill because they have a terrible business motto of more developers = faster/better content. Any Indie developer will tell you that's 100% false and the opposite happens, and it definitely shows when they doubled the size of WoW's developers and only bad things came of it. I mean every other year you end up paying $250+ more for a single tier if you keep your sub going.

WoW definitely went downhill though.

Starcraft was the equivalent of inventing the Sliced Bread for the RTS Category, now it's irrelevant, its popularity has dwindled every iteration, it was the game that started the eSport scene now it's just background noise.

Diablo III was an absolute letdown, every fan of the saga (Me included) who enjoyed the good'ol Diablo days were greatly disappointed by this new iteration that just couldn't live up to the hype or its name, let alone all the issues it had when it was first launched.

World of Warcraft is not even worth to play for free now.

If there's any meaning on this is that Vivendi have experience acting as a major share holder to successful and massive gaming companies, none of those games failed while Vivendi was still part of the board, they were at their best, once Blizzard was no longer part of Vivendi all those game went downhill, I can't prove it's related but it's something to have in mind.

Agreed, I've grown tired of Ubisoft's business practices and havent touched a game of theirs for years, it's time for a change.

I always love their rinse and repeat, "sorry PC gamers, we acted like children" then say they're going to be better to the community, who actually MADE them who they were, then they just do the same stupid crap over and over.

I stopped caring about whatever they put out when they destroyed the Tom Clancy name. I miss old Ghost Recon/Rainbow Six games.

The only reason why Starcraft was/is so popular is because it invented most of the RTS elements we see today. SC2 is not a worse game, it's just more of the same and people always look at sequels as worse than the original. If they changed the game too much, you would of had tons of people complaining about that then. Sequels to popular things can almost never make everyone happy. SC2 is a very popular esport game now., so I fail to see how it was a mess up. Maybe you didn't like it, but the majority did.

D3 vanilla was a letdown. Every knows this. The game in it's current state is not a let down, and can easily soak 100 or 200 hours every few months each time a new season comes out. Every single person i've seen complain about D3 in recent memory has 1) Never played it since launch 2) Doesn't like the ARPG genre to begin with. Even Kripparrian, who reamed the game constantly, played the current season and said the game is very fun now.

But back on topic, Vivendi > Ubisoft, but that's not saying much at all. I could go to the bathroom and make something better than most recent Ubisoft games. redface.gif

Vevendi has nothing to do with game development.
Those games are different now because of time changing.

WoW was made during the ultimate reign of mmo's that people were willing to dedicate to yet had a lot more accessibility than stuff like everquest or ffXI.
Starcraft was made during the time that almost not decent RTS was out and people were willing to get better and deal with the stress that comes from it
Diablo II was just a follow up from Diablo in a time when these types of games barely existed at all.

Nowdays
a ton more mmo's and even free mmo's rivaling now hence more people play different things+Blizzard started to change in WOTLK to make the game for the less dedicated people hence less stats, easier game and so on. They are still doing this sadly with legionizing becoming a new term for killing stuff from the class/spec in the Legion alpha.
RTS in general is now dead and has been devolved to moba's
Diablo III was a major messup and i got nothing good to say about the launch but they are making it one hell of a game and it keeps getting better
Nothing wrong with Heroes besides the need to somehow push Esport for it, should just leave it as a casual but completely different moba and it would grow on its own.

You start with such a bold statement and then follow it up with a list of games that I would rather cut my fingers off than play.

I think some might be reading more into the article than was stated. I don't see any thing about asking the government for money or the use of anyones tax dollars. No matter how you feel about Ubisoft, hostile takeovers should never be applauded, especially not from multimedia corporations.
