MSI GTX 980 fan blade broke off...

Will SuperGlue hold it? It holds it for now, but have not tried to spin it...

Without the bladr thr cooler still works and cools fine, but a bit worse of course... The worst part is that without the blade there is rattle, but from where? It has not touched anything when I test-spun it with my hands...

I cannot find a replacement fan online. The cooler is Twin Frozr V. Not even eBay sells it...

Super glue may hold it, but you're talking some high rpms and forces. I wouldn't risk it. Why not email MSI and see if the have replacements?

I wonder if MSI would send me free replacement of fans alone. It would be cheaper for them to do so than having me RMA the whole card and having them fix it. Putting on new fans does not require breaking the warranty seals on screws because it does not require removing the heatsink and the rest of the cooler...

I fear if the glue does not fix it, the imbalabce will the fan bearing in a month or so...

I will not use it at 100% for sure.

Wow, just WOW! I fixed it by using Super-Glue, holding it together for 2 minutes, then letting it dry for 20 minutes, then re-inforced it from both sides, waited 20 minutes, and then re-inforced from both sides again, and let it sit for 40 minutes.

It worked for 5 seconds with super-rattling and then the whole fan fell of the bearing. I had to put the whole thing apart, into like 4 pieces and found out that PCB-like color "paint" was GLUED onto the bearing itself! It is almost like the PCB itself (fan-PCB that is) melted and stuck to the bearing! How the hell could that happen? Before the fan blade broke off, the fan worked just fine.. I cleaned it all up and ironically temps are better than even before, although RPM's are identical to what they used to be.

MSI refused to send me a new fan... They only do RMA. It is another reason to stick with EVGA because their fans are more durable and EVGA is very pro-parts-exchange AFAIK...

P.S. I bet I won't be able to sell this card even for $100 when I disclose all that happened to it...

I'll take it for $100

My recommendation is that if the card still works, get an AIO watercooling solution or some other 3rd party cooler. More than likely, as soon as they learn you tried to fix it yourself, they will refuse to honor the warranty.

That being said, if they do honor the warranty, kudos to you. Tell them the fan was faulty and the blade broke off. DO NOT mention that you tried to fix it, though.

What is the name of this cooler? I wonder if it is compatible with 3rd party GeForce GTX 980 Gaming 4G. Its not a reference card...
