is my capstone 550w powerful enough for a 390x?

Thread Starter

I am looking to upgrade my 970 to a 390x. I really want a 980ti but the price I just cant get. I can get the 390x for 360 right now and If I sell my 970 for 225 it really didnt cost me much. I am worried tho because the 390x uses ALOT of power so im not sure if my 550w is enough or it wll be pushing it to close for comfort. I dont overclock so everything will be stock.

I feel my 970 is struggling with witcher 3 with the 970 so I really need something a bit faster.

sapphire nitro. i just dont know the performance difference between my 970 and a 390x. some sites say its not worth it and its a side grade. I need more power for witcher 3 but cant afford a new psu + another 970.

If I sold my 970 all id have to pay is 145.

It would be a diagonal grade at most. I feel like the money would be better spent just saving it for the next architecture. To hopefully lower the prices of GPU's that would be considered upgrades.
Small wonder.

it should be r9 390x TRI X

http://www.eteknix.com/sapphire-tri-x-r9-390x-8gb-graphics-card-review/

if you have no GPU it is up to you to get a replacement either a GTX 970/GTX 980/R9 390/390x or a cheap placeholder like a r9 290 and OC it to 390 core clocks

its not a big deal as I can always wait a bit. the 970 performs pretty good in Witcher 3 as of right now. I dont want to blow money on stupidity. I know both companies I believe have new cards in the works which I can wait for.
