maybe some themed contests (specific color usage, paint, effects, etc.). keeps the ideas fresh and interesting, and mixing up the competition a bit. of course, it could still be skewed in favor of seasoned builders, but at least the community can see some more cool stuff.

the underdogs definitely get my vote.

The prices is as it should be, Pro builders will spend a lot more money on there builds, sponsored builders have to pay just to post there log.

Well that wouldn't really work as people can tell what card it is by the block, backplate, VGA power length ect. It is a start though.

Must admit I don't know what the entirety of this discussion is about but I did glance upon a few points and i'd like to add my opinion.

Personally I do not think it should be titled 'mod' of the month either as that really doesn't encapsulate what the majority of the forums or wider community is about at this point in time. In a way it implies that making more changes and perhaps unnecessary modifications adds weight to a project when really it should just be about the success of the outcome, the skills involved and the presentation of what has been done. It makes sense that the competition rewards builds which add the most value to the forums. For that reason I think project, build or rig of the month would be far more appropriate.

I'm not trying to say those who put less work into something should be given a higher weighting, just that there should not be an incentive to needlessly 'mod' and add work to achieve a lesser end result. The outcome and the challenges overcome during a project for me define it's success.

Actually the hierarchy of Amateur, Professional and Sponsored Class make perfect sense, I really like the idea that winning the Amateur disqualifies you from entering again. Perhaps Professional could have a better name like Experienced as really most 'Professionals' are sponsored. And people in sponsored class should definitely have the chance to at least win their extra $30 back!

As far as voting goes public is fine, certainly for the Amateur class. I don't like the idea of going exclusively with a 'panel' of judges.

One thing that I would like to see and actually I think it may work well for Sponsored or Professional would be if only the entrants voted. Either by ranking each others work or just picking a favorite and of course excluding their own work.

My final final point, I think that the entrants should be allowed to choose the picture(s) featured on the voting screen and write a small overview. I don't know if thats how it worked before or not, I just hate it when others are in control of how my work is put across and it would give people a chance to prepare something which could also speak a lot about their work, how seriously they take it and their presentation abilities.

Can we track this guy down and get him to enter because he gets my vote smile.gifthumb.gif.

Seriously that is the coolest thing I have ever seen, someone reading this do this and you got my vote smile.gif.

That actually leads to a good question, if your mod needs video to portray it such as this can you have video instead of picture?

i wonder if he used the same technology they use in dance clubs where the leds actually react to the music or if he set the leds up then step by step put it all together in a macro type motion... either way that is pretty cool...

thats the cool part smile.gif. LEDs in dance clubs cant do stuff like that smile.gif. Him and his buddy did all that with an Andrino and 3 strips of blinky tape, the cut the strip to small pieces for erach section and re wired. They then took the song and made an after effects version and then turned that into programming to run the LEDs. They had to program each LED indivually. It only works with that song and took 2 weeks of programming for that light show.

He has a run down video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-mFEHLhJ9Y.

You can get the dance club music reactive LEDs but they are no where near as fitting to the music as that is thumb.gif, that was after effects and programming.

But can it do the Time Warp for Halloween . . .

.

Seriously, while it was probably a great learning experience for the builder and a lot of work to do with an Arduino, . . . . I'd have to see some real mods to even consider it as a mod build.

Lipstick on a pig doesn't make it kissable.
