Should I upgrade my i5 2500K @ 4.3 & 970 for 1080 144hz gaming?

My current build here.

Like the title says, I am unsure if I should upgrade to a z170 build or keep my current one. The only reason I am really contemplating the upgrade is because of how old my i5 2500K @ 4.3 is getting and how I have to turn down some things for new games to achieve 60fps plus.

I have an upgrade list ready for an i7 6700K and an MSI M7 Z170 Mobo, but with all the other accessories I am over $1K USD to upgrade.
Reading up about the 2500K bottlenecking a 980ti leaves me to believe my current build is just fine, because many believe it won't bottleneck that card while OC'ed. I'd much rather spend the money for a single GPU than spend the 1k plus to upgrade if it does what I want still.

I want to be able to play new games a max settings well above 60fps to take advantage of 144hz. Most of the games I play now I have to turn down a few things to get the FPS I desire. What route should I take to not have to worry about FPS @ 1080p gaming?

TLDR; So ultimately my question is this. Do I upgrade to i7 6700K build with my 970, or do I keep my i5 2500K @ 4.3 and upgrade the GPU to a 980ti or 980?

If you want more frames just upgrade your GPU, that 2500k with a little OC it's still a beast for gaming at any res thumb.gif

Yeah but in many games my GPU is already at 100%. So OC'ing more wouldn't benefit me any in those games unless I upgrade the GPU.

Ended up buying the 980Ti and some faster RAM. Thanks for the help, will probably push my overclock a bit further as well.
