Upgrade to support over 120Hz or wait for Pascal/Polaris?

Thread Starter
I upgraded my monitor to the Acer XB271HU, a 2K 165Hz panel. I learned shortly after I made the purchase that I'd probably be limited to 144/120Hz, and it turns out 120Hz was my limit. I understand that I'm not really missing anything, but a GPU upgrade is pretty much due to support the increased resolution and refresh rate that I'd like to enjoy games at.

Right now I can get an R9 390X for pretty good money. The new lineups could arrive at Q3 of this year, which is quite a wait. I can play games like Battlefield 4 pretty well if I lower most of the settings to Medium and 2x MSAA. Should I wait, or will I be fine if I upgrade now?

I think you should just wait.
I am rocking the 770, and I don't really feel confident in upgrading right now.
I feel the next generation is a much better time to do that upgrade.

I do know the pain of a few games not reaching the 120hz refresh rate.
