TOO BIG. All the mATX cases on the market are basically a little smaller than some mid-towers. I wanted a SFF, small build, so I wasn't happy at all. I downgraded from a ATX midtower (Phanteks Evolv ATX) btw if that helps.

So I ordered the asrock x99e ITX-ac motherboard and the NCASE m1.

I have it built up right now and I'm very happy, the case is just the best case I ever owned, it's the most intelligent engineered by far case I ever owned, and the aluminum side panels are just amazing.

I've wanted to do mATX, but I don't like any of the cases, as well.

You guys may want to look into the Kimera Industries case. If I wasn't already invested in watercooling, I'd make a build in that case.

Thanks for sharing this. The Kimera is one beautiful case. Although it is made of steel it is one of the nicest cases I have seen since the new Dan case and of course the Ncase. thumb.gif

yeah my only issue is that it comes out like maybe not even at the end of this year, it could be longer. The Dan s4 is nice, but can it fit as good as hardware as the NCASE m1? it looks like it has CPU cooling restrictions?

I feel that because the NCase is engineered almost flawlessly, and aluminum superb quality, it almost just eliminates the point to go mATX, since you can put a GTX1080 + i7 6950X (in theory) in it's small footprint, which is all the power anyone would ever need.

I might be upgrading to one, myself. And switch back over to air cooling. Or try really hard to force a 240mm radiator and custom loop in there.

I do love the NCase, but mATX X99 would be a bit nicer. Just extra expansions. Speaking of the 6950X, I do plan on getting one for use in my NCase sooner or later. Skipping the 1080 as I have the 980, and I can't justify that upgrade at the moment. Waiting for 1180 Ti's or 11X0 Titan series.

I just finished buying all my parts except for the ram. I want some gskill trident z but in the new colors. Can I ask you guys a question about the Asrock X99e-itx compatibility? I am worried about needing a bios update before installing the i7-6800k. I also read something about needing a 4gb stick of ram to be able to post and update to the latest bios before it will recognize anything greater. I will purchase a 2 x 16gb (32gb) kit.

You need the p3.10 bios update for support for broadwell-E, it's on the asrock x99e itx webpage:
http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/X99E-ITXac/?cat=Download&os=BIOS

As far as the ram is considered, people were saying that non-ECC 16gb ram didn't work with "older" UEFI BIOS on the asrock x99e itx.

I bought my Asrock x99e ITX/ac May 2016 or so, and it I put 16gb non-ECC crucial 2400MHz and it booted fine so maybe I just had a new BIOS on it.

Anyway to tell the bios version from the revision number on the board? Also, if I do have an older bios I guess I can just buy a cheap 4gb stick of ram but what do I do about the CPU?

you would obviously need a haswell-E chip lying around , i.e 5820k to upgrade the bios if all you have is a 6800k. unless of course the bios is 3.10 by default which I doubt???

Mine was purchased in may 2016, and it had bios 1.20 if i recall correctly.

*Oh and I checked my asrock x99e-itx/ac box , and NO, I did not see any BIOS number lised or any information that would give a clue as to what BIOS is on it.

Do you know if there is a cheaper processor than the 5820k? Maybe a cheap Xeon I can get?

You MIGHT be able to pop in the CPU (i7-6800K) and get it to run just enough to update BIOS for proper support. In a video Linus (LinusTechTips) released a little while back, he added a BW-E CPU to a server board that didn't have updates for the BIOS to support BW-E yet. The board stayed in post for a while, but eventually started up.

It was an ASUS board, though. If I remember correctly.

As far as RAM goes, I have the latest BIOS version (including the BW-E support update) and my non-ECC G.Skill kit worked perfectly fine when I installed it. Setting up the XMP profile gave me a slight issue but it works. After setting the XMP profile, then saving and exiting BIOS, on first re-boot I got a blank screen. On second re-boot, it took slightly longer to post, then started and ran fine. Since then it posts/boots perfectly fine and the RAM runs at the XMP profile speeds. The link to my kit is right here.

Also, where are you from? I wound't mine helping by letting you use my CPU for an update if you're close by. I plan to get the i7-6950X anyways, so, the 5820K is leaving the system sooner or later. Might as well get some use if it's outside of the system before I sell it off.
