Can running a pump at low RPM's damage it?

Thread Starter
Exactly what the title says. Specifically, I'm thinking of getting the Fractal Design S24 AIO, which uses a DC-LT pump. I have heard some complaints about the pump noise though when it's at its max rpm, so I would probably under-volt it to 9v. Fractal Design recommends against this though as they claim lowering the pump rpm could damage it.

If this is true, why is this the case, and how could I tell what rpm is relatively safe? Other people seem to running pumps at lower rpm without issues, so I am curious as to why Fractal Design gives this warning.

Thanks,

There are two things I think they could be trying to get at:

1: Under volting it could damage something.

2: It gets bogged down from not running hard enough causing mechanical issues.

Otherwise I couldn't really imagine anything causing damage to a pump from running it slower. I would think you are probably in the clear and they put that warning because running a pump to slow could cause a drop in GPM which could raise temps a lot if dropped too low.

Says here that you can use a 7v or 9v voltage stepdown cable with the DC_LT pump so I'd say it will not be problem running at a lower input voltage.
