I would fire any of my employees I hear talking that way while on my clock with customers present.
So, I watched the whole thing...And, after reading everything, I actually agree with James.
The Valve team essentially requested a repeat performance of his previous event...Which he brought. Only this time Gabe actually listened to it, didn't like it...And instead of being upfront about his complete lack of involvement, prior - Decided to take it out on James by saying he was an ass...
It would be like my administrating for you...You run off on vacation to England for 5 months, leave me in charge - Come back, hate what I've done, release a statement saying I'm incompetent when I've done everything that you asked, how you asked...Then you fire me, publicly, during an event.
That's really professional?
So recap - James already hosted 1 MAJOR event. Gabe did not participate. Gabe participates in Shanghai. Gabe comes to a conclusion and fires James, almost on the spot.
Here is Jame's very public statement:
He asked for a "whiteboard" - Was given a setup with paper...
They had no internet in Shanghai for over 1/2 of the day - There were a significant amount of issues...
Here's the segment that actually got him fired: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-7GmWF4cmQ
There's actually nothing wrong with it beyond the fact that Gabe didn't like it.
I think it was handled incredibly poorly by Valve but, I'm sure I'm in the minority.Edited by Masked - 2/29/16 at 6:30am
