400 pounds for x79 motherboard or upgrade cpu and mobo? - Page 2

300 GBP is not worth for an X79 platform no matter how you dice it. Why don't you get the other listings that I linked ?

As soon as Broadwell-E is out i am selling my Rampage IV Extreme so its a shame your old board had to die now.

Sadly all the ones you listed also required for me to pay import tax which will equate to around 300 pounds anyway. The sabertooth is fairly cheep but some of the ram slots dont work on that one and i heard you need a ghetto sli bridge to use sli on that board.
I found one used for 229 pounds here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rampage-Extreme-Intel-Motherboard-PCI-E/dp/B0069ZIEO4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1456677318&sr=8-1&keywords=ASUS+Rampage+IV+Extreme
but is still quite a bit

I wouldn't pay anything more than 150GBP for RIVE BE (still would bargain). Do you have an option to sell the rest of your setup and maybe move to a Z170 platform ? I got mine for ~100GBP here on local craiglist.

I dont mind selling the cpu but I wouldnt want to sell my graphics cards or anything like that (not yet anyway). But money isnt an issue any way, i was thinking of going to the 5930k or even the 5960x if i felt crazy enough. Is the Z170 better than the x99?

Ooh, you have cash aside then Haswell-E would be a better deal. The only trouble would be to give up your RAM for DDR4. I'd go with the 5930K (8 core part) + an ASrock / MSI or Gigabyte board (I wouldn't trust Asus for this platform due to irregularities in their performance with X99).

X99 is the superior option with tri-sli if you go with a 5930K. That CPU has 40 pci-lanes natively. You will have to get a PLX chipset on a Z170 mobo for 40 oci-e lanes, which will add latency. Some people do not notice it but I did, and thus upgraded from Z77 to X79. It was worth it IMO, and I only run 2X sli. YMMV.
