$2,000 Budget Video/Movie Editing Build

Thread Starter
This is what I have so far:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2Dnpqs

Will take other suggestions, building for a friend. Pretty much requirements:
  • Must not exceed $2K
  • Must be dual screen (two monitors)
  • Must include all hardware (mouse, keyboard, speakers, etc... pretty much full build from scratch)

No high end videocards will be needed as this machine will be built purely for video/movie editing.

-5820k has similar performance for much lower price, the main fature of the 5930k are the more PCIe lanes (40 vs 28), which you won't be taking advantage of.

- Get 4x4GB ram sticks instead of 2x8 to take full advantage of quad channel.

- 950 Pro ssd will give you a much better experience in video editing, pretty much what this SSD was meant to do.

I think you would be better off with a case like the Enthoo Pro or Fractal Design Define S

Be aware that not all X99 CPU´s can work with RAM faster then 2666 MHz even after a BIOS update.
I say dont bother get a 2666 MHz kit and spend some of the money saved on a better CPU cooler instead.

The 212 Evo is old not all that great and not quiet either, it has also been replaced by the 212X so if you want a cheap cooler at least get the newest one.
If you want to spend a little bit more there are tons of options, just dont get a cheap CLC AIO cooler those are rubbish.

The Hyper 212X is not currently available in the USA. So that's out of the question temporarily for now but the system doesn't need to be built immediately so my friend could wait on that. It will be built in the next 3-4 months. Any other coolers worth buying?

In 3-4 months the 5820K/5930K will have been replaced by the 6800K/6850K so it would make zero sense to get a 5930K by then.
And Noctua has the NH-U12S and NH-U14S just to name two, there are many other options from Phanteks / Cryorig / Be Quiet and Thermalright

Not available? then what is this?

Look at the vendor carefully again. NewEgg pricing is $44.99, it's on auto-notify but I'll leave it on the list for PCPP.

Slightly over budget, may have to consider dropping the 950 Pro or the R9 380. I only chose the 380 for Sony Vegas OpenCL. I guess I'll have to wait for 6800K/6850K prices if they're even close to the current price of this build. Any other recommended 23" IPS screens? I find it difficult to squeeze in some decent IPS screens.

Prices for the new CPU´s should be the same as the prices on the ones they are meant to replace.
Unless Intels jacks up the price for some reason.

Also note that if you are going to get that case you will need to switch the front 200mm fan around with the 140mm fan mounted in the top as the 200mm fan in the front cant push air into the case making it pretty much useless.
