Over the weekend a new story reached the web, the Radeon Fury X2 (dual-GPU FIJI) would have been spotted and was rumored to be an air-cooled product, photos even appeared. The speculation started as a VR demo kit photo has shown part of a videocard cooler inside a chassis.

AMD recently demoed a production version of the card in one of its launch partners, Falcon Northwest's, Tiki high-end gaming desktop, as a "VR developer box."

Roy Taylor from AMD at the time tweeted, captions a picture of this dev box as being "the world's best DirectX 12 VR developer box," leading the press to speculate that it's running the company's dual-GPU "Fiji" card. That last bit still has to be proofed, as many times the actual new product is not inside such a setup. Remember a XBox launch where PCs where actually used ? smile.gif

If you look at the zoomed in photo you can opnbviously see the fan. For all I care it could be an older generatiopn product. But the speculation right now is that if that is the Fury X2, it would be air-cooled.

Now if you ask me, two GPUs that close to each other, no ... the fan is likely there to coo the VRM area and components, and then liquid cooling for the GPUs, e.g. a Hybrid LCS design in my opinion would make the most sense. Below the photos, the card you see added (photoshopped) is the reference Radeon R9 390X as comparison, so the real question is this, did AMD actually use an X2 in the demo setup ? Or is that really an X2 likely with its longer PCB and some form of Hybrid liquid cooling ?

No idea but air cooled Fury X2 is entirely possible since 7990 is air cooled. Fury X2 could be slower than 2 x Nano in CF to reduce power.

Sooo much of rumor here.
Cant really confirm anything here.

If the rumor about the Fury X2 being in Tiki, then there is a rumor that its air cooled rolleyes.gif

sure fan might be for vrms but i have a huge problem with that. Just take 1 look at the Fury X2 PCB layout. What VRMS is it cooling again, those 4???
Also given the length would mean the fan is almost behind the power connectors. They would put the power connectors on the top if they were extending the length for extra cooling surely?
Then looking again at the PCB, there are 2 or 3 fan headers but looks like 2 minimum. Noo idea what that can mean though. Maybe 1 is a LED.

It supports any Dx12 Win10 functional PCIE 3.0 card and uses Xeon E5- processors. There's nothing AMD here.

Additionally the twin GPU Fury X2 cards are crossfire/singleGPU only and aorn un-ganged GPUs are running faster in Dx12 than SLi/Xfire paired because the drivers aren't multi-thread even if Dx12 is now.

Having demos with AMD Fury X2 in them was probably intel's idea.

On the flip side, order it without a card and you got one NOICE pre-built Xeon E5 server!

Now AMD was saying they were looking at an air-cooling solution for the Fury X2 and there probably will be one, but you know nobody's gonna buy it except to take the sink off and put on a pair of blocks.

Now I don't know if any of you have noticed it, but the Fury X2 has 12 GPU power controllers that are all beefier than Nano's, and they're big mufflers too. She's probably got room to slam more than 500 watts through her. Don't buy an air-blocked one. http://img1.mydrivers.com/img/20150626/3fc506d30618419f9fe4e08095592c91.jpg

The card they've been showing also sticks an entire additional centimeter further up than regular cards.

There is actually a good chance this is true.

Tiki's really only have room for one radiator and this is occupied by the CPU. All Tiki comes with water cooled CPU. Add in the above picture, the 12tf or 750mhz clocks, the best ps is a 600watt power supply(most computers this size have a 450-500 watt PS) and there is a very good chance ticki is aircooled. The 12tf really explained by the air cooler.

AMD is showing the card in a Tiki. There is no room for another clc in the Tiki.

I heard that the Fury X2 is using either Fury or Nano chips, not the Fury X chips. This makes air cooling even more plausible.

The reason why Fury X2 is "shipping soon" according to Roy is probably because they will announce it at GDC along with the VR machine Tiki.

Or its a R9 390X inside the Tiki they are showing.

Fury X2 have water cooling. That is 101% confirmed.

Based on the reveal that Fury X2 have 12 TeraFlops and not 17 Teraflops which 2x Fury X would make, it may be using two underclocked Fury chips.

Didn't Asetek win the injunction to prevent cooler master from equipping the Fury Xs and Gigabyte 980ti Waterforce with the cooler master AIO?

There's no reason that this can't be an OEM exclusive cooling solution. OEM could be air and retail could be an AIO.
