[PCPer] PC Gaming Shakeup: Ashes of the Singularity, DX12 and the Microsoft Store - Page 3

In the PCPer article they go over this, with AMD - "Vsync off: Render rate is uncapped, able to go as high as the hardware will allow. The draw rate to the monitor however is capped at the maximum refresh rate of the monitor. Only the most recent frame rendered is shown at the Vsync interval – all other frames dropped from the pipeline.".

Additionally with the FCAT graph they say "This graph looks very similar to the graph above, though we see frame times hit the 0ms mark. At those points, frames are missing from the FCAT overlay pattern and thus indicate that a frame was dropped from the output queue after the GPU had rendered it. Manually stepping through the recorded output verifies this assertion and as I learned this week, is the expected behavior for a game running under DX12 with these modes enabled."

60Hz
60FPS
No FPS overlay
No 3rd party FPS limiters to smooth out a game

If all true, time to leave PC gaming....

Not sure if the article is true. But tweaktown benchmarks do show that SLI/CF works in AoS and it can scale above 60fps.

I could see Vulkan stomping the snot out of DX 12, if even a part of what is being speculated comes true. To entirely take away control, and access to amazing technologies, would kill DX 12.

This isn't about the Windows Store, but about DX 12 itself.

This is exactly my worry. If we can't run DX12 games without an FPS limiter and 144Hz support, I will sell my PC hardware, mark my words, mark them well.

Yes good point, I forgot about that. At least we have Vulkan.

If any Store or API breaks what gamers expect, modding, shader injectors, frame-rate limiters, capturing software, overlays, etc FROM 3RD PARTIES (I swear to god MS is trying to take all that away just to sell their own versions), all we can do it not buy that software and let game developers know not to use that API or Store.

Lord Gaben was wise, indeed.

Well most games will still support DX11 for quite a while. So you should have that option at least.
