[Various] It sounds like Xbox One will get hardware upgrades - Page 4

Probably has to do with memory usage. When a system is put into sleep mode, the OS and running programs are copied into RAM. I'm assuming that Instant On is very similar if not the same as sleep. It could be that when the machine wakes back up, the memory isn't released properly in order to free up room for the current session. Where as powering off forces the RAM to clear itself.

Dude that so amazing nothing like this has ever been done before. You know what we should do is break down the controller with more buttons and a more sensitive like adaption to the thumb stick something we can pin point more accurately with like bigger muscle groups. Ya that would be so awesome. I really wish we had something like that. Shoot...next they'll make special TV's with higher resolutions and stuff.

Spencer did not give a roadmap for the hardware upgrade(s). E3 is scheduled in June, so i'd wager we'll get more info then. I'm not too surprised about the MS announcement considering the NX is rumored to be released late 2016 with more info revealed this march from Big N. It seems MS does not want the xbone to fall further behind this generation.

This will end badly if consoles' history with proprietary hardware continues.

This again makes external GPU addon a viable option of development.
The best way to do it would be to let original XBone owners be able to trade their units in for the upgraded version at a big discount over a new XBtwo or whatever they call it. Then Microsoft takes all of the turned-in XBone's, sends them to a refurbisher, and resells them, the same way you can buy refurb Surface and even Surface RT from Microsoft and their retail partners.

All I see in this is microsoft trying to rebrand all PCS as xbox machines, lock out steam and try to take over pc gaming via windows 10.

Forcing all software on all pcs past a point to be an app, even steam, and then locking down the PC into a closed marketplace they control.

So they're basically trying to accomplish the same thing that Steam is? Shame on Microsoft for trying to compete in the computer gaming market....

The next thing you know, someone will accuse them of the unspeakable evil of trying to compete with Google in cloud services. How dare they.

I don't know how I feel about this. I've been a console AND PC gamer for a while now. I like each for different reasons. I like consoles because I can plop down and play without much effort, and because I know I won't have to worry about upgrading them for a long time. I like PC because there a lot of obscure and awesome games on there that I can't play anywhere else, better performance, mods, etc.

If MS really does create a shared game ecosystem between PC and XBOX, that will be awesome. But I don't think I like the idea of upgrading a console anymore than I like Apple and their ecosystem where they whip out a new phone every year with software updates that slowly make their old phones useless. Neither do I trust MS to do this well. They're a software company, not a hardware company. Many of their exploits into the hardware world have been very hit-and-miss.

Not to mention that most of their websites, app stores, etc SUCK. And am I going to have to pay an XBOX LIVE fee to play their PC games online? I have a lot of concerns.
