Finally upgrading - Need some advice ASAP (buying tonight)

Hey all,

So I'm finally upgrading my sig rig and am looking for some advice on which direction I ought to take. First of all, I found a great dealer that would like to sell whole setups vs's parting out due to labor costs. However, the prices are worth it (or maybe I'm just blind?)

Basically. He has a 5930k setup listed below for $1750 as well as a similar 6700k setup also posted below for $1550. Now, I'd prefer to BUILD, but for the prices.... I can't really let it go. I did do some newegg shopping on the parts and sure enough, everything is actually way beyond his asking price, and all of his PC's are less than a month old, receipts are provided

Thermaltake Special Edition Core X31 RGB Edition Black ATX
MSI Gaming X99S Gaming 9 ACK
Intel Core i7-5930K
Avexir Core Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2400
Micron M600 512GB SATA SSD
EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB SC+ GAMING w/ACX 2.0+, with the backplate
Raijintek All-In-One Open Loop Liquid CPU Cooler Red - Upgraded RGB Fans
Thermaltake Riing 12 RGB Series 120mm Circular RGB LED Ring
2 RGB Lighting Controllers.
CORSAIR RM Series RM850 850W ATX12V and EPS 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular
Windows 10 obviously

For $1750.

I'd be trading in my GTX 680's, mobo/cpu/ram for another GTX 980 TI.... so essentially for $1750, I'll be grabbing that.

Another option is this one for $1550:

Intel i7-6700k
MSI Titanium Edition Motherboard
GTX 980 TI
Geil Super Luce DDR4 4 x 8GB w/ White LED @ 3200 MHz
OCZ Vertex 4 240GB Solid State Drive
EVGA SuperNova G2 750W Full Modular PSU
Corsair Carbide Series Air 540
Raijintek All-In-One Open Loop Liquid CPU Cooler Red LED
6 x Thermaltake Riing Series High Static Pressure Circular Red LED RED

Again, trading in my parts, I'll be snatching up another GTX 980 Ti.

Finally, he does have a few other parts laying around that hopefully... I can snag up. I really wanted a Maximus VIII Hero Alpha over the Titanium... and I'd rather keep $250 over the 5930k

With that said, I'm not sure which way I should go. Please note, that I'm going to be keeping my Switch 810, along with my Corsair AX1200, so don't worry about that.

Which way would you go and why? I can purchase either, and I'd be keeping some left over parts, but I want to hear some justification from the community on which is the better buy, and perhaps some other option I'm not considering.....

Thanks thumb.gif

If your planning on sli x99 hands down, also I would be cautious of that AIO cooler you have picked, i've read about failures and leaks, even on the newest revision thumb.gif

I came to the X99 v Z170 crossroads last week. You can check my sig rig for the direction I went :P

Just in. I can also get Maximus VIII extreme with 16gb of Dominator 2800mhz in an Air 540 and EVGA 1000 watt (lol) and the 6700k

Basically, that for $1150, just need to get the GPU's and that's it.

Yeah, not a fan of the cooler - But I'll take a stab at it with that price. And does the x99 scale that much better with Sli over Z170? what sort of performance difference would I see?

I'm leaning more towards the 6700K because of cost. The fact I can have dual 980Ti's running with that setup for under $1600............
Or dual Ti's at $1750 with the older MSI Gaming 9 board and aging 5930K -

But I'd spend the extra money and what not

more pci-e lanes, that gives you a lot more expandability in the future

Why is anyone still selling that overpriced and overrated RM?
Why you might not want to buy a Corsair RM PSU

Please use your AX1200 instead.

Not sure I'll be upgrading or changing anything for a while. The only thing I might do is add an M2 drive. I game on 2560x1440 and even though I might bottle neck the GPU's. I think they won't make a noticeable impact.

I'd rather game at 2560x1440 @ 120hz over 4k at 50FPS tongue.gif

I plan on it. Like, I really don't need the case, SSD, PSU etc. I will just use my AX1200 and Switch 810. It's just the fact that he's getting these barebone kits and then whole PC's. It's not worth his time or labor to part out, he trades and wheels and deals.

Either setup I go is way worth the money. I don't mind getting the 5930k, I just somehow don't want to spend $1750 when I know really, I won't use the 2 cores I don't think. And I don't really need other stuff.

it's just the fact that it does come with an SSD I could use extra space, and the RGB fans for my color scheme is nice.

What do you guys think of the Titanium? I'm not a huge fan of it, and I haven't see many reviews about it. It seems to be a love or hate it board.
