Well for me I'm not the type of person that likes to get a better graphic card to play the newest game on the highest graphics.
I typically find a video card and then find the resolution/quality I can play the game at 30-60fps (depending on the game ofc).
Up until recently I've played on 1440p with a second 1440p screen for videos/skype/TS...etc on a 780 or 290x.
About a week ago I bought a 28 inch 4k monitor.

1. I don't entirely plan on gaming at 4k, unless the game has the ability to lower the graphics for it to be playable.
2. A 970 (of which has 4gb vrm) is 50$ more, but I'm still on the line about seeing the value of it...

As much as I like to play games on higher resolution, it's not necessary.
For example, because I sold my GPU(s) I've been playing on my laptop hooked up to my 1440p monitor playing games on 720p..... Not ideal but it's better than not playing the game.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Reasons to pick 780:
Cheaper price wise
Entire 3gb clocked at same speed

Reasons to pick 970:
Slightly more performance
Reduced power usage
More VRM (4gb)
Newer all around

Since you said the price difference between the two is $50 more, I'd get the 970 plus your reason stated below the 970 checklist. Good luck!thumb.gif

I would go with the 780 or even AMD before I went with a 970. I know people will come to its defense but the fact is nVidia lied and is still lying about it. Get a used 980 of you insist on a 900 series card.

I would consider AMD if I hadn't had such a problem with them in the past, much like AMD processors.
980 imho isn't worth it, better off eating ramen by for a month and getting a 980ti.

If you're willing to eat Ramen then get the 980ti.

If you're willing to, it's a lot better than a 780 or a 970, and if you spent the money on a 4K monitor, you might as well use it.

If you want to talk about value then consider the R9 390. It costs about the same as the 970, except its the faster card.

I'm sorry but AMD is not in my personal preference even if they were to preform better in this situation.
