Silverstone ST45SF-G noise

Thread Starter
Hello everybody. I finished a build today and the noise is annoying. Under no load the noise level of this PSU is 35-40dB. I bought this because it said it was silent. However it's the loudest part of the computer. Should I send it back to Silverstone, and if so, how do I do that? I live in Greece.
Thanks for reading.

Perhaps you have some coil whine. Who was the seller?

It's normal for those units to be noisy. If you bought it online, you should simply return it for not being what it was advertised as.

I ordered it online from a store in Greece and picked it up there a week ago. It's v2.0 as well.

Is it? Most of the reviews of it were positive last time I checked. You're right though, I should return it. Anyway, the thing is that it's so far away from where I live I'm considering just buying another one. Knowing how Greek businesses work , they most likely will not return it. I've sent them an email regardless. Fingers crossed rolleyes.gif

I dont mean to be rude but everyone knows the SilverStone SFX units are anything but quiet.
So if you had asked before you bought we could have told you that they are loud.

Yes... The fan speed starts at 1400RPM. For some, reason many reviewers are half-deaf... laugher.gif
There currently isn't a completely silent, or truly quiet SFX power supply. ST30SF gets very close but it's only 300W. I think you should wait for the Corsair SFX units to be reviewed.

No worries smile.gif I should have asked.
Can you recommend me a good SFX power supply that is silent? I need a small one because the case I have is the SIlverstone FT03 mini.
There are no SFX PSU that are quiet you cant have a small high speed fan and low noise.
You can get a Cooler Master V which is almost as small as an SFX units and those are a bit more quiet.

Its not that they are deaf its more like they dont test for noise or they are so used to loud units that their sense of noise is higher or lower.

I see. What about a regular PSU? Any recommendations for silent ones?
The Cooler Master is a regular ATX PSU.
