ya it looks like stuff will be fine. 980ti might be overkill depending on what games you will be playing (assuming you will be playing games).

is the RAM DDR4 or DDR3? I guess it doesn't matter, as some motherboards will support ddr3, someone else please explain this, as I dont have much experience with the DDR3/4 situation with skylake.

you also may want to get more ram. 8 gb is the industry standard right now, but i would spend the extra dough and get 16 gb of ram.

I'd really try to go for a more modern case to put such a high-power build in. The 912 was cool a while ago, but it has been made obsolete by comparable cases like the Fractal Design Define series, Phanteks Evolv, and many others.

Other than that, I'd also go for 16GB of DDR4, preferably at 3000MHz or higher and a stronger cooling solution than the H60.

well whats a good case thats not over $100? i pick the HAF 912 b/c its so cheap only $60,the RAM is dd3 1600 same thing is cheap only $40 and i already have it. and as same for the H60 is only $60.i think is the best i can get for $60 is H60
post #5 of 16
You seem to be under the misconception that AIO coolers are better then air coolers and this is the fact wrong.
For $60 you can get a Noctua NH-U12S which is light years better then the H60 its also much more quiet and its a hell of a lot more reliable.

So no dont get a H60 that would be stupid when there are better options that cost the same or less make less noise and are much more reliable.
Best cooler for $60 HA that made me laugh.

I don't disagree with your assertion about the H60 in particular, but you do seem to harbor some strong biases against AIOs in general based on that avatar title. I am slightly amused.

As for the case, all of these are far more modern than the HAF. Of course it ends up being a matter of personal taste, but most people tend to ougrow the hardcore "gamer" look which made the HAF series popular, and sleek cases will take a lot longer for you to get sick of looking at.

Edit: These are from a quick search in the $50-$75 bracket of ATX cases on Newegg. There are plenty more where those came from.

Good luck with the build.

After 6 dead AIO coolers i am sick and tired of those overpriced overhyped overrated gimmicky fashion CLC AIO coolers.
The marketing hype has brainwashed too many into thinking CLC AIO coolers are the better option when they are in fact not.

Get a good air cooler instead or do it probably and get a good AIO cooler from EK or swiftech instead of that cheap rubbish from NZXT / Corsair / Cooler Master and everyone else.
Or if you are going to liquid cool do a custom loop.

In the end you get what you pay for.

Can't blame you for hating them. On the other hand, I've had an H80, an H100, an H100i GTX and a Kraken X60 and all have worked flawlessly for several years. Only bad egg I had was a DOA Deepcool Captain. My Phanteks TC14PE is also great, powerful and quiet, but I personally prefer AIOs usually due to relatively easy installation, the fact that they are less risky to transport, clean case interior and their ability to exhaust heat directly out of the case.

Air coolers are reliable, cheap, powerful and they can look great, but there's no need to shame a newcomer and scare him off of a perfectly viable product.

Edit: I do agree that the H60 is not his best option though.

Had a H50 or H70 (cant recall which) a H80 a H100 a X41 and X61 and a Seidon 120.
All dead within half a year due to the pump, one was a DOA and the other leaked which i caught before it killed anything.

So yes i truly hate them and after 6 fails i am not stupid enough to make the same mistake again.
Truly the most unreliable carp ever sold are those AIO coolers are they are not very good nor cheap nor quiet so you get cheated 4 times over when you buy one.

For me its air cooling or nothing and no one whatever they say or claim will never change my mind based on my horrible experience.

I guess I could chime in, I had a thermaltake water cooler pump fail after 6 months of use. It still works but it would shoot up to 90C in a stress test or some CPU intense games instantly. They really aren't that quiet compared to some of the quiet Noctua CPU heatsink coolers.

@OP You have a power supply for the build right?
