[WCCFTech] AMD Zen 8 Core 95W Summit Ridge CPUs Launching In October – Already Going Through Validation - Page 8

Golem says SK Hynix has implied 4 Gbit HBM2, quoted for Q3, will be directed at middle class chips as well. The rumour is that Riven Ridge APU might come with it, supposedly ditching DDR4.

But as soon as they started testing bulldozer they started working on damage control. Just the opposite with zen, they say now it exceeds their 40% expectations. Athlon and pentium core was both made by jim keller. The cpu architecture guru. And for 3 whole years amd had him in a lab and gave him free reign. They did projections on what node we would be on and built for it. Then he went to work for THREE whole years to make the best possible cpu because amd knows they have not been relevant and so threw the last of their money into keller and these cpus. Remember am4 will be ARM and APU compatible. And remember he just got done working with intel and making their chips before developing zen. So given all this information on keller and the specs they laid out I believe what the rumors are saying.

Really, broadwell like IPC on a real 8 core chip? I thought it was supposed to significantly exceed their old lineup but still be behind intel.

I was waiting for intel to release an 8 core for around $600. Can't believe im saying this, but if this turns out to be true i might actually but weighing the option of an AMD chip for a high end build for once. Question then will be how good their motherboards are for other things. I havent used AMD (aside from some low end family builds) for many years, i seem to remember amd chipsets had trouble with SSD TRIM or something and just generally didnt run as well as intel. Either way competition ftw.

I was really thinking of giving up my 8150+6670 based rig for a 7850k based rig, but now I think I should wait, but the wait is long and kind of uncertain whether I will get Zen based rig built this year or not, prices anyways in India are pretty high compared to US prices.

Yes time for AMD to kick Intel butt for their 5% improvement every year.

This time will force them back to their drawing board to design a 8 cores Core I7 in the mainstream segment with AVX512 and eDRAM cache built in.

Had enough of their 5% milking every generation.

Isn't it true that 6-12 months after the release of a new archutecture that yields increase due to efficiency increases in production and also leakage decreases? I believe some people have said gpus manufactured awhile after the new tech released benefit from improvements.
I'm wondering if this is true with skylake and will also be true with zen.

I have my doubts 1st gen Zen will be kicking Intel's butt. It will probably be competitive, but I think we'll have to wait for the second gen for things to really get interesting.
