From the beginning, we had had more requests that I can count for a small case suitable for Air/AIO cooling. These cases are designed for that need (Heresy - I know!

) One thing we found at events like PDXLAN is that even among knowledge system builders, only about 10% use custom loops, especially in their LAN rigs. At the same time, they put a lot of effort and pride in their work, so they want to be able to show it off.

So our design goals for this project were:
  • Keep the case compact - much more so that our previous designs.
  • Allow for very clean cable management.
  • Provide excellent cooling for air coolers (and AIO systems).
  • Provide good access, so you can get hands in and work on it. A common complaint of many SFF cases is that they can be very difficult to work with. While we used "SFF" in this thread, it's not something that will likely make its way into our marketing for these cases.
  • Provide the ability to show off the interior of you build, take advantage of case lighting, sleeving, etc. In this respect, we incorporated one of the most popular optional features of the S3 - dual side windows.
  • Provide a case that can get handled a lot without fear of damaging it or the components inside. To that effect, the drives are shock mounted and the MB & GPU are mounted horizontally to reduce stress when using heavy GPU's. The exterior is a "hard shell" design made from heavy .090" (2.3mm) aluminum (the front and rear panels are made from .063" - 1.6mm).
  • Come in a lower price point than our previous cases.

As always, no case can meet everyone's needs or desires. We also wanted to change up our "look" a bit for this series. Our air-cooling friends have been patiently waiting for a long, long time for something like this. We'll have to see if this format is what they're looking for

Launch date us scheduled for May 6th.

We'll have more information as the project progresses.

Another decision I'll have to make on April 22nd. So I have two cases to think about getting? Come on CaseLabs give me a third case option to decide on

1st Pics!

This is just the first prototype, so some changes are likely. It's already been handled and knocked around quite a bit. The picture are rough, but at least will give you an idea how how it will look. Studio shots will come after the next prototype next week. Size i 10.00"W x 9.25"H x 12.75"D. At 20L is is about half of the S3 at 39L. In fact even the full ATX variant is expected to com in at around 30L

USB 3.0 and Audio is standard. The handles and windows are optional.

The design is based on military/tech gear that is design to be both rugged and easily transportable. Exterior casing .090" aluminum - so fragile at all

Hmm... how many HDDs can fit inside that 'lil beauty?

I see two down below but if you were running it as a NAS on the iGPU, maybe 2x4 in the front or is there not enough depth?

I really wish you could fit 2 x 240mm rads on here, from the looks of it (because of the maximum 11" GPU - which is the standard length of GPUs) you can have a 240 up top and hopefully you guys allow an extra 120 rad to fit somewhere so you can have more cooling for CPU and GPU.

Thank goodness the handles are optional! They need to be redesigned to flow with the case, it seems to go against the design somehow.

EDIT: My Project MATX case is 20 liters and you can fit 2~3 240 rads on there plus use GPUs of 11.5 inches even with rad and fans up front. I'd still buy this though as long as you could at least fit more than 1 x 240 rad.

I heard you all on the handles

Handles are a tricky as they can get very expensive very quickly. I want to keep the price point at something that makes sense for this case. Depending on how they do, I may get with Bill Owen at MNPCTech about possibly coming up with one of his billet designs as an additional option (they would be much more $$$ though). I have a couple more samples coming in today. I'll have pictures up by this afternoon.

Thanks for your opinion guys. We want to make the best case we can for you. Keep 'em coming!

Let me clear up any confusion around this. The handles are purely optional and the case works just fine and has a very clean look without them.
