The Acer comes with its own share of problems. If you check the last page or two of its thread youll see what I mean. Honestly unless you absolutely need to have an IPS/AHVA panel, the Benq XL2730Z is the better 1440p 144hz freesync monitor.

Not sure how you draw that conclusion, being an IPS panel gives it a pretty significant advantage in terms of image quality and color reproduction, which are some of the most important features in a monitor. I went through five MG279Q's before getting one without dead pixels, significant glow/bleed, or grease behind the panel, but once you get one that's free of quality defects, it's a pretty great monitor.

I draw that conclusion because I own both the Acer XB270HU and Benq XL2730Z and the Acer is not worlds better in terms of image quality.

Just because you don't notice a significant difference in image quality, doesn't mean one doesn't exist. You can take a look at reviews online and see the difference in color gamut, color shifting, viewing angles, gamma issues, washed out colors, etc. TN's have their advantages, but pretending that they are comparable in IQ to an IPS is a bit silly. The Benq XL2730Z barely reaches over 70% of Adobe RGB, and it's viewing angles are pretty poor, even compared to other TN panels (https://pcmonitors.info/reviews/benq-xl2730z/), and it's gamma is all over the place.

I don't think the XB270HU has better color gamut. Neither monitor has a wide gamut. Out of the box gamma is indeed typically worse on TN especially due to the lack of OSD options for it, but I do believe after calibrating both said IPS and TN, you can get color accuracy, gamma curve, and white point on a comparable level? Thus leaving only the color shifting/viewing angles, although IPS has its own similar issue with IPS glow (which is particularly bad on 144 Hz AHVA).

Im sure if you were to take both monitors and use the out of the box settings then sure the benq will look far worst. But both of my displays have been calibrated using an x rite i1 display pro. Also when did I ever claim that there was no difference in image quality between the two? I simply said that the Acer is not worlds better. Sure it is slightly better but is not a day and night difference like comparing an LCD to an OLED. Also the viewing angles are not much of an issue if you view the monitor straight on. And of course i could always make the counter argument that IPS panels suffer from glow.

Just picked up this monitor! Loving it so far.

What calibration settings is everyone using here? Are the settings that are recommended from TFT Central good enough?
I use sRGB preset and VividPixels @50 for gaming

For desktop I use less contrast, brightness and VP @40. Sometimes I also use Blue light filter
post #149 of 290
Yeah, I think it's the same panel too. Great deal.

You get less features outside the panel from ASUS, but is it worth the price difference?! Hardly.
Just bought this monitor from Newegg (they were running a special last week where it was going for $489).

So far, so good. My unit has a Nov 2015 build date on it. Usual IPS glow (which I'm used to from owning IPS monitors over the last half decade). No dead pixels. No yellow corners. Using ICC profile from TFT Central alongside their recommendations (Racing Mode, 28 Brightness, 80 Contrast, 0 Vivid Pixel, and 100/96/96 for RGB.

Question 1: does Freesync work using the Mini-DP to DP cable that came with the monitor? I'm still rocking an older Nvidia GeForce GTX 670 so I can't test this yet (I'm waiting for the next round of higher-end AMD cards to come out).

Question 2: Just checking in on folks who are overclocking the Freesync range from 35hz-90hz to 57hz-144hz. Are there any longer-term reports or anecdotes about overclocking side effects?

Question 3: For those who have overclocked before, is your preference to operate Freesync at 35hz-90hz? Or do you like the overclocked 57hz-144hz better?
