Cheap server build - Page 11

Running 28 LHC tasks (CMS/Theory) +1 Atlas +3 Einstein GPU tasks (150mb) is currently using 43.2 GB of RAM on Windows 10.

I was running 4 Atlas multi-cores @ 8 cores each a while back and it was around the same memory. 40-50 GB? I can always test this out if you're interested.

Not sure what OS you were planning but i'm sure linux would be more responsive. The system is kind of laggy when mostly crunching CMS/Theory tasks due having so many VM's open?...an alternative would be just running Sixtrack as it uses barely any RAM or bandwidth compared to the other tasks and is much more responsive (unnoticeably so)

Get the 64GB and buy more RAM off ebay if you really need it?

I was planning Windows 7 or 8.1. I havent quite decided yet on such, but 10 is probably not happening unless I can configure it exact how I want and it brings serious improvements to how it handles audio (and asio specifically) to the table. Call it preference for "set it and forget it" stability... I don't want to have to be messing around with a bunch of settings every time I want to fire up Traktor, Maschine, or Ableton as my rig will be doing double duty as an audio rig too.

Good to hear that the 128GB of ram is probably overkill.
