I couldn't get the damn thing to work. I did just as magic mentioned and scanning for the IP finds nothing. Doing nothing on another computer found it but would not connect. Now BOINC manager doesnt even work on that PC. Its been a real pita.
post #132 of 191
Yeah, I probably try it out later, but I know it going to be a pain for me since the folder runs under Linux, my two tablets are Android base, the Laptop is W10 (but i switch OS a lot on it), and the main rig is W7. Plus the fact I tend to put firewalls on everything.

Update script works great, I had 4 PCs sitting idle and now they all have work after just 5 or so minutes of update spam.

Here is a simple update command for Linux.

Open a terminal.

$ cd /var/lib/boinc-client

$ sudo su

$ watch -n 60 boinccmd --project http://csgrid.org/csg/ update

That should update once a minute on the local system.  Adjust the timer as you see fit.  ^C to stop it.

I set the update timer to every 16 seconds until I had enough work for a bit, then changed it to 120 seconds. I got work very quickly that way.

If you use the scan, delete the MAC address and it will probably work.
