Did you measure with the sliding Pump-mounting rail removed? Because it would be too bad if I couldn't fit my res for 2mm lol

I measured it from closer to the PSU where the pump mount does not interfere with the measurement. Also 11cm might work, maybe it will be touching the card, but that could help actually to prevent gpu sag. I don't know how you intend to fill the reservoir with it like that but I figured you had some idea biggrin.gif

Also here is an updated pic with the gtx 1080 upgrade. Also added some lighting, and redid some tube lengths for straighter lines.

Yeah, filling the res is going to be a huge problem both if I install it below the gpu or above it like you did tongue.gif

Could you please tell me what reservoir are you using and how tall is it?

Anyways, congrats on the update, it looks extremely sleek!

It is the "EK-RES X3 150 Lite", but with the 110 tube. The 150 tube it comes with is too tall. That is the overall height by the way, so my res is 110mm tall. Plus fittings on top and bottom though, easily another 30+mm.

Like you, I did a lot of planning for this build as working with mITX is quite challenging.

My inspiration was this build on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7yM0sC-XDs

I liked the thick front radiator with fans mounted outboard, and I liked the res and pump placement. Although I prefer straight tubes and more symmetry so I did my tubes a bit differently, also I think my solution to go from res to pump is better and allows for full length high end video cards.

First, thanks a lot for answering my many questions smile.gif

I was looking to get the Ek x-res 110 as well (that's why I had told you my res was 11cm tall) and I am now planning to place it above the gpu like you did.

Since I plan on mounting both my front rad and its fans inside the case (to keep the dust filter) I have 2 quick questions for you:

1) Is there enough room to fit the X-res 110 above the gpu like you did even with 55mm (30+25) thickness of rad and fans? Did you mount it to the leftmost rail?

2) If I had another radiator in the top (still 55mm total thickness), would I have enough space to fit the res in the same spot as you did?

Sorry for all the questions but I really like your build and I'd like to take inspiration from it smile.gif

Questions 1 and 2, I really doubt it. There is maybe 25mm of clearance between the top resevoir fitting and the top of the case. If you ran both input and output fittings on the bottom of the res you would get more clearance, but probably not enough for a rad and fans. You would need to go with a much smaller res than EK offers, or use a T-line. Or go with a 120 radiator on the top, 120 on the back, and 240 in the front. Looking at my case I simply cannot envision a 240mm radiator on the top, I would need to make serious changes.

One thing to consider if you have the money, is the caselabs nova, it is similar to the nano s but with a bit more room. To be honest if I had known about that case I probably would have bought it instead of the nano.

Yeah, building a clean double radiator loop in this case doesn't look possible unfortunately frown.gif

If I didn't use any front mounted radiator, what would be the maximum thickness I could go with by placing it in the roof?

I mean, something like JayzTwoCents' Nano S build to be clear smile.gif

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

Nice build indeed. I own the nano s and I'm looking into water cooling my rig over summer. I also own the z170i Pro gaming and an i7 6700k and what struck me is that you used the EK supremecy evo CPU bock with this motherboard. I am actually wondering whether you have problems with this block because when I contacted EKWB, they told me that their CPU blocks are not compatible with this motherboard in view of the few capacitors (on the left of the socket) being too close to the socket and will touch the block. TO make the block compatible, I would need to rub off a few mm from the plate....which I am not willing to do of course! But curious to know if you had to tamper with the block to make it fit.

In response to the discussion on the number of rads, I believe that only one rad can fit in the case if you go for thick rads. However, it should be possible to install two rads (top and front) as long as they are slim (<30mm). The EK 280mm (and the majority from other brands) is too long however. I found the alphacool nexxos slim 280mm rad and fractal design confirmed that this should fit in the front. I came across a build from Paul's Hardware (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24I1dxleSpQ) who managed to fit two 240mm slim rads (top + front) but with the front fans outside of the case, thus having to ditch the filter. I don't really mind ditching filter but I hope to fit a 280mm slim in front instead of a 240mm.

This would depend on your mobo and ram. Looking at my case I don't think there would be any limit to thickness as long as the ram and vrm heatsinks clear.

There is no issue at all on the front side of the motherboard. On the back side there are some components that prevent the rubber gasket from laying flat. You could either trim the gasket a bit or just lay it over the components like I did and it's fine. No clearance issues with any metal components on either side of the mobo.

I had wanted to do a front 280 as well but could not find one that met fractal's specs. And I didn't want to have to gamble with modifying the case or radiator. So I went for the best 240 that exists which in my research was the EK XE 240.

Also that build by paul is very clever, good job to him. I had not seen that before. But yes putting the fans on the front really gives you a lot more room to work with.
