For every golden chip I find, there is a pile of poor clockers I have to take a little loss on. You might be surprised if you saw how low our margins really were.

Hey, we (I) was only joking around, mostly since all of us met each other in various different ways here and we each individually had already planned on buying our CPUs from Siliconlottery.com.

That has to speak volumes right there, that's all I meant was we're all sending our money to the same place.

And for good reason, you do an outstanding job, provide an amazing service to the community, and hey I hope you are making a killing, you deserve it bro. wink, wink.gif

You know I'm always speaking in quintessential over the top hyperbole anyway, right?

Thanks for stopping by CPU super binning bro. Much Love. wubsmiley.gif

The name Siliconlottery is in fact sort of a thesis-antithesis if you really think about it.

I mean Siliconlottery.com is the opposite of the silicon lottery, that's where you buy a CPU when you want to be guaranteed a stable clock, and avoid playing the silicon lottery.

So the name.com is kind of a triple head-scratcher. headscratch.gif

Although I really love what SL does. OH YEAH.

Cool story bro,

I played the real silicon lottery with my first 3770K back in 2012. It was an average clocker for Ivy Bridge, 4.6GHz stable, 4.8GHz bootable into Windows. I was also at first a total noob with overclocking, had the Maximus 5 Extreme board, loved it then, still love it today, but the first 9months owning the CPU I only used that ROG automatic dial-in function in the bios that set the 3770K to a stable albeit weak and overvolted very inefficient 4.2GHz. Still, I felt like I was on top of the world and could feel the increased responsiveness in my rig over the stock 3.5GHz clock.

Then in November 2013 this cool guy from the ROG forums showed me how to OC manually and I took off on my own, with new found confidence I attempted a delidding of my very average 50th percentile ranking 3770K. Had seen it done enough times in online videos and with my background with blades and handles from school, thought this would be a walk in the park. I used a scalpel and Bard-Parker surgical blade #12, thinking "I got this".

What I ended up getting was Q-Code 55 memory error, I had cut into the CPUs pcb and sliced some of the dual channel memory tracers, later I found out that's a typical fail when delidding the Ivy CPU since those tracers are very near the surface. I flipped out, needed the rig to get my work done, ordered a new 3770K from Amazon with Prime and overnight delivery. It was a weekend so overnight meant two-days Monday delivery, that weekend was fought with so much personal guilt and frustration, my shenanigans had cut off my ability to provide for my family, even though back then only Alina and a few stuffed bears.

So Monday arrives and I'm pacing the floor running on no sleep, only begging to those powers high I at least get another average 3770K and please God, don't send me a dud, I'd heard about some nightmare chips only clocking to 4.1 or 4.2. (below average for Ivy Bridge). So the CPU arrives early in the morning, I had the test bed ready back then it was a Corsair 650D case, laid it down flat to allow gravity to move all the air out of the Noctua TIM while applying an even pressure to the H100i cold plate. Booted up first time with great relief, "I could work again" and I did for hours not caring how grand of an OC this replacement was capable.

It was the following day I began pushing the CPU to find out just how high. I called up my same OC friend from ROG forums and we began the task at hand. 4.6 was stable ahhhhh at least its average as before, 4.7, 4.8 were also stable. OK this calls for a beer, went out for Chinese and Fosters. Back at task, 4.9 was stable, a loud Hosanna rang out through the humble village. Cold rinse down in the shower, one more beer and tried to relax before proceeding any further. Could we? Would we? 5.0GHz was stable, and I just kept on booting into Windows 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, the latter three unstable but it sure felt good. I had played the lottery and got extremely lucky, although at those stress levels, I never wanted to do it again.

In walks Siliconlottery.com.

Picked up a brilliant 4.8GHz stable 6700K delidded from him last February, the idle temps are so low, and with his amazingly talented delidding the CPU restores those low temps after the load is lifted very quickly. So in love with this 6700K. Kind of wish I had waited and picked up one of the few 4.9GHz stable skus, but oh well, the 4.8 is enough now that the 6700K/M8E will act as 2ndary rig only for daily researching.

My 2600k overclocked at 4.8 GHz at 1.2V on air (Noctua NH-D14).

With my next build I was excited to delve into water cooling for the first time. Being primarily for gaming I opted for the i5-4670k. I had to bump the voltage up to ~1.4V just to get stable at 4.3, eventually settling for 4.2 GHz at 1.35V.

Enter, Silicon Lottery and my 4.6 GHz 6850k. biggrin.gifthumb.gif
